What you'll do...

About The Team: As a Software Engineer III, you will be solving complex problems that will empower our merchants to deliver the best selection of products, along timely channels and at everyday low prices. You will leverage Generative AI and bot technologies to add business intelligence to Wally, a Gen AI powered assistant for merchants. You will help build a platform architecture that integrates multiple merchant reports, tools, and workflows into a singular merchant experience across global Walmart markets. You will be working with technologies such as Gen AI-based applications using skills such as LLMs, Prompt Engineering, Python, Java, Kotlin and related frameworks.

What You'll Do:

  • Deliver small to medium scale platform and business features, from requirements gathering to designing, developing and maintaining technical solutions
  • Collaborate with senior members of the team to gather requirements, participate in design discussions, code, test and deploy the products to production.
  • Engage with Product Management and Business to drive the agenda, set your priorities and deliver awesome products.
  • Support Wally engineering, leveraging Gen AI and bot technologies to build and extend chat capabilities
  • Lead the discovery phase of small to medium projects to come up with high-level designs by partnering with the product management, project management, business, and user experience teams
  •   Support a collaborative environment across geographies for delivering best services to customers around the globe.
  • Using programming languages such as Java and Kotlin to build highly scalable services to process millions of requests per day
  • Building software instrumentation to monitor and alert on large scalable infrastructures
  • Developing application test cases including unit, regression and performance testing
  • Work closely with a team based in Bentonville, Hoboken and Sunnyvale, CA

What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years of industry experience as a software developer
  • Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, problem solving and complexity analysis
  • Hands-on experience with at least one modern programming language such as Java, Kotlin or Python
  • Experience implementing API's in a microservice architecture
  • Experience building high-performance, highly available and scalable systems Experience with Cloud Computing platforms: Microsoft Azure, Google cloud or similar
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in the ecommerce/retail software space is desired
  • Experience with ReactJS, Typescript
  • Experience working with LLMs and compound AI systems (multi-step RAG, Text-to-SQL, or “agentic” workflows)
  • Experience with event stream processing such as Apache Kafka
  • Experience with GraphQL and NoSQL databases (Cassandra, Cosmos)
  • Experience with containerization tools such as Kubernetes and Docker
  • Use of observability tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace and Grafana (edited)

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. Programs range from high school completion to bachelor's degrees, including English Language Learning and short-form certificates. Tuition, books, and fees are completely paid for by Walmart.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00
