DevOps Engineer

Wisedocs is on a mission to make it easy and accessible for any company in the insurance, legal and medical space to understand medical documents quickly using AI (Artificial Intelligence). Every week, we process hundreds of thousands of pages of documents, saving our customers hours and hours of manual processing time, and helping them process medical claims much more quickly.

We're looking for a Software Developer with DevOps skills to join our Engineering team. In this role, you'll write robust Python code, support scalable infrastructure, and work closely with AI/ML systems—all while gaining deeper exposure to modern DevOps tools and practices. This is a great opportunity for a back-end developer who wants to expand their expertise into cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployments, while working on a product that makes a real-world impact.

The position is a hybrid model requiring on-site presence 2-3 days/week in Downtown Toronto.

Responsibilities

As a member of our Engineering team, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining efficient, reusable, and reliable Python code that powers our back-end systems and ML pipeline
  • Collaborating on infrastructure improvements and deployment workflows to ensure scalability, security, and reliability of services
  • Assisting with CI/CD pipeline setup and enhancements, supporting streamlined and automated deployments
  • Identifying and resolving performance, scalability, and deployment issues, helping improve the robustness of our systems
  • Managing complex data structures and algorithms for seamless processing within the platform
  • Taking on additional responsibilities as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment
  • Creating comprehensive technical documentation for system components and architecture, providing clarity on engineering decisions across the team
  • Working closely with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic for a seamless user experience
  • Supporting cloud-based environments and participating in incident management when needed
  • Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned as projects develop, adjust and mature

  • Round #2 - Technical Assessment
    Duration: 30-45 minutes
    Focus: Practical Coding Evaluation
  • Round #3 - Hiring Manager Interview
    Duration: 1-1.5 hours
    Focus: Experience, technical skills (conceptual assessment), team integration.
  • Round #4 - Meet with our CTO!
    Duration: 45 min
    Focus: Culture fit, strategic alignment
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Back-End Developer with strong proficiency in Python and frameworks such as Django or Flask
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, or similar CI/CD tools
  • Experience deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), including services like S3, EC2, RDS, and IAM
  • Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration for scalable application development
  • Proficiency with database systems (SQL or NoSQL)
  • Ability to automate development, testing, and deployment workflows in an Agile environment
  • A robust problem-solving mindset; comfortable navigating frequently changing priorities and managing multiple tasks efficiently
