Job Description

AECOM Water is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our growing Charlotte, NC office. This role will lead and support design efforts for a variety of water infrastructure projects including treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance.   

  • Participates in development of technical proposals.
  • Design low voltage and medium voltage electrical distribution systems for industrial water/wastewater applications, as well as, traditional building services. 
  • Perform design for lighting, fire alarm, telephone, security, and grounding systems.
  • Prepare design drawings including single line diagrams, electrical plans, wiring schematics, schedules, etc.
  • Prepare and develop engineering studies, reports, calculations, designs, specifications, and construction cost estimates in compliance with applicable code and standard requirements.
  • Establish electrical equipment performance parameters based on project requirements and coordinate with equipment vendors to refine preliminary selections.
  • Use computer software as a tool to solve engineering problems.
  • Manage designs during construction including shop drawing review, information request response, and punch list generation.
  • Provide quality assurance oversight and independent quality control reviews to support deliverables developed by others including calculations, plans, specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Develop engineering fee estimates, assist with technical proposal preparation.
  • Work within a project team environment, interfacing and coordinating with other disciplines and design team members.
  • Collaborate with design professionals and project managers in other US offices.
  • Occasional light local and national travel to project sites.
  • Experienced with large, multidisciplinary projects in an engineering role.
  • Perform electrical system designs including:
    • Switchgears,
    • Switchboards,
    • Motor control centers,
    • Variable frequency drives,
    • Generators, transformers,
    • Distribution panels, and
    • Other electrical distribution systems components.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education 
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina and South Carolina, or ability to become licensed within one year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering + 6 years of Electrical design experience, preferably relating to water treatment facilities, pump stations, or water infrastructure.
  • Proficient with electrical design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and SKM.
  • Proven problem solver able to grasp complex concepts readily.
  • Ability to apply passion and leadership in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment.
