Editor, Style

Apartment Therapy was originally launched in 2001 by interior designer Maxwell Ryan (nicknamed “The Apartment Therapist”) as a weekly newsletter for clients. We officially became an independently-owned company in 2004, and since then Apartment Therapy Media has grown to become the only media group dedicated to life at home. We are committed to teaching our audience real-life solutions by giving them tools to create happy, healthy homes through our award-winning brands: Apartment Therapy, The Kitchn, Cubby, and Dorm Therapy. Together, our portfolio engages a monthly audience of 47 million users across platforms, while our dedicated team of over 140 professionals collaborates from our sunny New York City office and locations across the U.S. and around the globe.

Apartment Therapy is seeking an Editor, Style to help shape daily and monthly home design and shopping content for the site. This role will focus on identifying and covering emerging home decor trends, curating shopping recommendations, and developing engaging style content that resonates with Apartment Therapy’s audience. The Editor, Style will report to the Executive Home Director and work closely with the Style team to execute short- and long-term editorial strategies.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented editor with a passion for home decor and design. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor who understands how to create engaging, service-driven content around home style, decor, and shopping. This role requires someone who can spot and interpret trends, package stories for maximum impact, and produce engaging and informative content across formats, from SEO-driven articles to shopping guides and visually compelling features.

This role will be responsible for writing and editing a mix of daily and evergreen content, tracking trends in home decor and shopping, and contributing to Apartment Therapy’s larger style initiatives. The right person is organized, adaptable, and excited to collaborate across departments to bring high-quality content to life.

While most of this job will focus on writing and editing (~50% of the role dedicated to editing, ~30% dedicated to writing, ~10% dedicated to special projects, and ~10% dedicated to administrative tasks), strong communication skills are key. The Editor, Style will work closely with freelance writers and other internal stakeholders to align content with traffic goals and audience interests.

This role can be based out of our NYC office in Soho or remote.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute about two-thirds of the monthly Style lineup, including trend-driven stories, shopping roundups, and expert-backed design coverage
  • Write and edit daily style service and shopping content with a focus on accessibility, affordability, and Apartment Therapy’s signature voice
  • Track and report on emerging home decor and shopping trends, identifying timely story angles and ensuring the vertical meets monthly output goals for style shopping content.
  • Contribute shopping-centric stories to support the editorial team’s goals
  • Assign and edit freelance pieces, maintaining a high standard of quality and clarity
  • Assist in developing and executing editorial franchises and special projects for the Style vertical
  • Collaborate with the Growth, SEO, and Creative teams to optimize content for traffic and engagement
  • Attend virtual and in-person press events, trade shows, and industry appointments to stay informed on trends and maintain key brand relationships
  • Maintain and expand a network of designers, industry experts, and contributors to enhance Apartment Therapy’s coverage

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience writing and/or editing in the home decor, design, or lifestyle space (digital media preferred)
  • A sharp editorial eye and a strong understanding of style and shopping trends
  • Strong writing, editing, and content packaging skills, with a knack for making style stories accessible and actionable
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and audience engagement strategies
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities
  • A strong sense of what resonates with Apartment Therapy’s audience and how to tailor content accordingly
  • Experience using analytics tools like Parse.ly and Google Analytics (preferred but not required)
  • A collaborative spirit and eagerness to work across teams
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and to quickly adjust strategy and execution in the face of new information

Salary: $70,000- 75,000 annually

The above represents the expected salary range for this role. Ultimately, compensation is determined by level of experience, location, and other job-related factors.
