Objective:
The Accounting Specialist supports transportation clients with bookkeeping and financial reporting. Responsibilities include data entry, filing tax forms, advising on S Corporation formation, and assisting client support staff. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions:
Data Entry & Compilation: Accurately record income and expenses for use in compilations, estimates, Financial Statements, and tax return preparation.
Value Billing: Implement and manage value-based billing for both affiliated and non-affiliated transportation clients.
Client Support: Assist client support staff in the call center, addressing client inquiries related to tax returns, estimates, and other financial matters.
S Corporation Advisory & Formation: Advise and assist clients in forming S Corporations for their transportation businesses, providing guidance on best practices and legal compliance.
Quarterly Estimate Bill Pay Program: Manage and oversee the quarterly estimate bill pay program for our growth-level transportation clients.
Form Preparation & Filing: Prepare and file 1099 forms for transportation clients, ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Prepare and file 2290 forms for transportation clients, meeting all filing deadlines.
Departmental Support: Assist the Transportation Department with various projects, including Beneficial Ownership Information, estimate preparation, new client calls, Registration Agent renewal, retention efforts, and tax return delivery.
Competencies:
Strong understanding of Schedule C, 1099s, and S Corporation tax structures
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously such as BOI, CRA, estimate preparation, new client calls, RA renewals, retentions, & tax return delivery
Experience with value billing processes for both affiliated and non-affiliated transportation clients
Ability to assist with quarterly estimate preparation and management of the Estimate Bill Pay program
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Well organized with good time management and multi-tasking skills
Works well in a team environment and ability to maintain positive relationships with work teams and customers/clients
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail
Must be able to develop working knowledge of in-house software packages; preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Pass a CJIS background check
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervision responsibilities. He or she will have the Chad Cannon as a supervisor.
Position Expectations & Work Environment
This is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works normal office hours (with guilt-free flexibility). Some weeks over 40 hours will be required.
Location & Travel
Based in Springfield, MO, but also serve employees in all Abacus! physical locations and those working remotely.
Required Education & Experience
Preferred 2 years or more experience in accounting; experience in the transportation industry is a plus.
