Are you confident working in a fast-paced environment where problem-solving, collaboration, and technical expertise are key to success? If so, come and join EDF as a Mechanical Engineer!
The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll provide engineering responses and conduct review and acceptance functions for queries raised by site contractors regarding Layout and Equipment scopes across the Nuclear Island and Conventional Island/Balance of Plant buildings.

Your role will be pivotal in supporting site-based engineering by delivering timely solutions to construction queries, helping maintain project schedules, and optimising workflow efficiency. The JDO was established to enhance site-based engineering responsiveness, minimising delays and ensuring construction teams receive swift, actionable engineering support.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a starting salary of £54,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for responding to general queries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemption requests from the MEH Contractor on-site, working closely with the Responsible Designer or site experts when required. Ensuring compliance with Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements is a key aspect of the role, along with challenging design decisions to ensure engineering and design align with the overall project strategy.
In addition, the role involves coordinating support from external organisations and contributing to the resolution and closure of open points. Assessing technical risks and implementing appropriate measures to address them will be crucial in maintaining project integrity and progress.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer) is essential, achieved through co-location and integrated team collaboration. The role reports operationally to an Operational Lead, ensuring effective communication and alignment with project objectives.
Who you are
You’ll have a strong foundation in engineering, with a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. You will bring experience in mechanical system design, installation, and commissioning, along with the ability to apply multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry. A solid understanding of the construction and installation sector, as well as Health & Safety legislation—including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
You’ll have the ability to assess and challenge engineering designs, ensuring alignment with project objectives while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. Your role will involve influencing a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly in a site environment, to drive effective decision-making and problem resolution.
We’re looking for someone who can work independently, take a proactive approach, and effectively escalate relevant issues when needed. Strong communication and collaboration skills will be key to building and maintaining relationships with teams across the project.
If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
Closing date for applications: 2nd April 2025.
