About the Role:

We are seeking a Leadman for our Weld and Parts Finishing department. The Leadman is responsible for assisting supervising Personnel and work related to the weld and parts finishing department to make sure that the production schedule is met. This position ensures the productivity of the team by providing the necessary support to maintain consistent and efficient workflow. The Leadman will help oversee day-to-day operation of the departments and work to coordinate support for the team. This role is vital to the successful pursuit of efficient workflow.  

Responsibilities for Weld Leadman

  • Gather parts daily and kit available jobs.  
  • Have parts prepared in advance to allow welders to begin a new job with no delay when possible.   
  • Sort, clean, and organize the weld aisle, weld rack.   
  • Assist and train welders who need help with rigging, fitting up large pieces, or training them. 
  • Do any welding on hot jobs, small jobs, modifications whenever needed. 
  • Work independently and be self-motivated, being aware of the department’s needs  
  • Help and assist with clean & Burr area as needed  
  • Work the scheduled hours to have coverage when needed. 
  • Do any 5S or continuous improvement assigned by the manager. 
  • Do any other tasks directed by manager 

Responsibilities In support of manager or in managers’ absence include:

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in production or processing of goods. 
  • Establishes work schedules, assignments, and production sequences, to meet production goals. 
  • Determines standards, and production rates based on company policy, equipment and labor availability, and workload.  
  • Communicate with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances. 
  • Works with vendors to maintain inventory of weld consumables
  • Communicate with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within departments and/or between departments.  
  • Reads and analyzes charts, work orders, or production schedules to determine production requirements.  
  • Recommends or implements measures to motivate employees and improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.  
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers. 
  • Inspects materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions. 
  • Demonstrates equipment operations or work procedures to new employees or assigns employees to experienced workers for training.  
  • Ensure that all areas have Standard Work Documents, and all Continuous Improvements initiatives are implemented and followed.
  • Work independently to facilitate workflow within the department.
  • Train new employees to perform at a high level within the department.
  • Willing and able to work with others as required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Complete tasks timely and efficiently in accordance with expectations as directed by supervisor.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • At least 5 years of weld experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge weld and parts finishing principles.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and associated software as it pertains to Eriez.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and use basic shop math including decimals and fractions.
  • Able to read and follow engineering drawings, written procedures, sales orders and specification sheets and determine equipment and methods used in Welding and manufacturing components.
  • Able to use specialized tools/fixtures.
  • Familiar with various types of industrial equipment.

 Required Skills:

  • Work in conjunction with other supervisors, manufacturing, engineering, sales, production control, customer service, etc. to plan and coordinate workflow.
  • Delegate responsibilities and individual projects/tasks.
  • Mentor, manage and train employees.
  • Develop and oversee quality standards within the department.
  • Assist individuals in solving problems encountered with specific tasks and with day-to-day operations.
  • Resolve conflicts or miscommunication that may happen quickly and amicably.
  • Oversee and ensure all safety rules are always being followed.
  • Utilize E1 and RF-Smart to track components, shortages, orders, work orders, labor, etc.
  • Utilize AutoDesk Vault Pro and/or ImageSite to obtain Eriez drawings.
