Plant Operations Support - Summer Help

Job Description

Are you looking for a dynamic and rewarding way to spend your summer? We have the perfect opportunity for you! Join us as Plant Operations Support in a fast paced, high volume, manufacturing environment.

This is a full-time, temporary, on-site position at General Motors for the summer of 2025. The position would start in mid to late May and end the first week of September.

In this role, you may have the opportunity to assist in managing multiple work teams in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing environment.  You will be responsible for coordinating and leading daily team activities to achieve business metrics using GM tools and processes as it relates to material flow.  You may also be called upon to help with miscellaneous projects as required by the team.

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the facility on a full-time basis.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Regularly supervise groups of employees to and manage manufacturing operations

  • Foster accountability among individuals and processes, which may involve challenging discussions in a unionized setting

  • Interpret and respond to the daily manufacturing plan in real-time

  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities

  • Adapt to change and effectively manage uncertainty

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively with all organizational levels

  • Showcase advanced analytical skills to address and resolve complex issues

  • Assist with Data Collection & analysis

  • Complete Layered Audits in work area relating to quality, safety etc

  • Assist in follow up of safety protocol and procedures

  • Assist with special projects related to general plant operations as requested

  • Daily support for tracking purchase orders, ordering supplies, and event management

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 18+ years old

  • Must be able and willing to work weekends and rotating shifts

  • Satisfactorily complete drug testing and a background check

  • Proficiency to listen, read, follow work and safety instructions

  • Ability to coordinate, manage, escalate performance concerns as necessary, and lead people in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to solve complex problems and work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions in ambiguous fast-paced environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage conflict effectively

  • Basic computer proficiency (i.e., Microsoft Word, typing, email etc.)

  • Possess good physical stamina and coordination. Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to:

    • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time

    • Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections

    • Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals

    • Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes

    • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold)

    • Frequently and repetitively:

      • Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work

      • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds

      • Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment

  • Previous manufacturing supervisory experience

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
