Advocacy Coordinator

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Advocacy Coordinator to support our After-School programs. 

The Advocacy Coordinator will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

We are currently seeking an Advocacy Coordinator to provide complete oversight of the program's academic enrichment and support components.  The Advocacy Coordinator will ensure program participants receive needed mentorship, academic support, social-emotional support, career readiness, college prep, life skills, and multicultural exposures to prepare them for college and careers.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years of experience working in an educational, case management, social work, or community service setting
  • 1 year of supervisory/management experience

What you'll do

  • Work one-on-one with students to understand the diversity of needs for academic resources
  • Oversee work with school partners and parents while collaborating with other site staff
  • Supervises Student Advocates and tutors to assess students’ needs, and develop and implement plans to meet those needs
  • Maintain statistical data for all education-related activities, such as student participation and tutor hours dedicated to education activities
  • Review the educational history of students to evaluate academic performance and learning characteristics
  • Coordinate, develop, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of the IEP for students
  • Prepare reports and updates as required and continuously evaluate program impact
  • Review and use of data to make informed decisions around education component program improvements
  • Develop long-term and short-term plans/programs for the purpose of meeting instructional objectives
  • Attend and contribute to case management meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule

  • On-Site (Monday-Friday)
  • Peacemaker Program: 10 AM - 6 PM
  • Promise Academy, After School: 11 AM - 7 PM
  • Zone High School After-School: 12 PM - 8 PM (Friday 10 AM - 6 PM)
  • A Cut Above: 11 AM- 7 PM

The annual salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000, with a comprehensive benefits package including employer-covered health insurance. To be considered, interested applicants should apply directly through the job posting.
