Principal Engineer, Data Engineering (Hybrid)

Principal Engineer, Data Engineering is a key leadership role in the data organization. Reporting to the Director of Data, this person will run the technical roadmap and strategy for the data and machine learning platforms. 

You will make an impact by

  • Partnering closely with senior leadership to develop a multi-year technical strategy for the data platform, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and alignment with business needs.

  • Architecting a robust data platform that enables efficient ingestion, transformation, and modeling of data from diverse sources, ensuring seamless integration and high availability.

  • Enhancing self-service analytics capabilities by designing and implementing a strategy for well-structured, reliable reporting datasets that empower business users and analysts.

  • Optimizing data workflows to improve query performance, data freshness, and overall reliability, enabling faster insights and decision-making.

  • Establishing and enforcing best practices for data governance, quality, lineage, and security across the data platform.

  • Providing technical mentorship and guidance to analytics and data engineers, fostering a culture of best practices, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.

  • Evaluating and implementing modern data tools and technologies, ensuring the platform remains at the forefront of industry best practices.

  • Developing and implementing effective communication strategies to translate technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, enabling better cross-functional collaboration.

  • Building strong partnerships across Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, Security, Analytics, and Design teams to solve cross-functional challenges and drive data-driven decision-making.

You are a bar raiser, which means you come with:

  • Over 10  years of software development experience, with 7+ years specializing in data engineering and analytics.

  • Expertise in architecting, designing, and implementing large-scale data platforms, optimizing data pipelines, and enabling self-service analytics.

  • Demonstrated leadership in driving data strategy, including data modeling, governance, and platform scalability.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset and attention to detail, ensuring efficient data processing and high-quality datasets.

  • Effective communicator and collaborator across technical and non-technical stakeholders, enabling data-driven decision-making.

  • Proficient in Python, SQL, Redshift, Spark, Databricks, DBT, Git, and other modern data technologies.

  • Proven track record in establishing processes for high-quality software development, data reliability, and operational excellence.
