Project Engineer (PE License)

it's electric is a curbside electric vehicle charging company with deployments underway in 11 US cities. it’s electric provides a public charging solution that addresses the infrastructural and environmental justice barriers cities face in the deployment of electric vehicle charging. Applicants should be excited to do the work with one of the fastest growing climate and transportation start-ups in the country.

📣 Calling all Professional Engineers looking to pivot into Climate 📣

The Project Engineer role centers on strategically planning and preparing for it’s electric’s unique model of curbside charging infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overall project management for charger deployments
  • Site assessment and evaluation, including available power capacity
  • Overall project design and engineering, including drawings and specifications
  • Signing and stamping permit drawings to local authorities
  • Coordination with local permit authorities and utilities
  • Contractor bid and award
  • Construction administration and coordination
  • Establishing company-wide technical and strategic standards and priorities
  • Development of novel technology that reduces charger installation cost and time
  • Management of technical sub-consultants
  • Coordination with it’s electric project managers and designers across regions
  • Representation of it’s electric at property site visits, conferences, events, public hearings, community board events, and panels

Candidate Requirements:

We seek highly motivated candidates with expertise in electrical and mechanical engineering. Candidates should have examples of complex urban design and build projects (extra points if in urban rights-of-way) that have been physically built and are in use. Experience deploying EV charging is not a requirement, however candidates should be knowledgeable about electrical distribution systems in cities and buildings. Candidates should be familiar with, and comfortable interpreting NFPA 70 (NEC), and the National Electric Safety Code. Strong candidates will have 5-10 years of relevant experience seeing complex projects through from concept to completion. Candidates should be comfortable using traditional collaborative drafting and diagramming tools (AutoCAD, Bluebeam) and be able to clearly convey engineering principles using non-technical language that non-engineers will find easy to understand. Candidates will have experience working with trades and contractors during the construction and sign-off phases, and will be able to contribute to the development and ongoing maintenance of project tracking and documentation tools and assets.

Only Licensed Professional Engineers, or engineers who have completed their Engineer-in-Training programs will be considered for this role. Licensed PE strongly preferred. Professional license must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Role Requirements:

Candidates are expected to be highly organized and able to autonomously advance projects. As such, the engineer will make engineering calculations to prepare engineering designs and specifications; review designs submitted by contractors and others; identify deficiencies and corrective action. Prepare plans and drawings neatly and accurately; check, design and prepare engineering plans; deal effectively with engineers, developers, contractors, property owners and general public; understand and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications and other contract documents; ensure project compliance with State, Federal, and local rules, laws and regulations. Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to build and maintain productive, positive, and long-term relationships with stakeholders, while proactively and assertively tending the permitting, technical, and highly targeted project schedule.

Physical Requirements: 

Be able to lift equipment (up to 40 pounds) as necessary. Candidates must be able to work in-person four days a week at it's electric's offices at Greentown Labs in Boston, or at Newlab in Brooklyn. Candidates should have flexibility to travel across the country to contribute to multiple overlapping projects on a monthly basis.

Salary
Salary range is $120k-$160k, depending on length and relevance of candidate’s experience. Qualified candidates will be offered a salary according to the following guidelines, with final salary determined by relevant experience in this space:

  • $120-$130k: Minimum 5 years of experience, no licensure 
  • $130-$140k: Between 5 and 10 years of relevant experience, no licensure
  • $140-$150k: Between 5 and 10 years of relevant experience and licensure
  • $150k-$160k: 10+ years of relevant experience and licensure
