A Day in the Life

Our Coronary and Renal Denervation business is an exciting growth business, helping people globally with coronary artery disease and high blood pressure restore health and extend life. The external communications program manager is a strategic thinker and motivated team collaborator with a proven ability to develop and drive external communications plans to support our key news and campaign milestones. This individual must be change-agile and have deep domain expertise in public relations, social media, external communications and integrated communications, and be comfortable working as part of a cross functional team to support integrated communications programs.

This individual will work closely with the CRDN internal and external communications team, corporate communications, investor relations and cross functional partners to support integrated communications programs. As needed, this individual will also flex between internal and external communications and provide support for executive thought leadership. Must be media and social media savvy and possess an outstanding attention to detail with a strong bias for action.

This role reports to the Vice President, Communications, Coronary & Renal Denervation, Peripheral Vascular Health, Structural Heart and Aortic, and Cardiovascular. Preferred location for the role is in Minneapolis, MN.

Day in the life:

  • Develop and execute external communication programs for the CRDN operating unit, collaborating with Impact Marketing, Digital/Social Media, Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, and Government Affairs functions as appropriate.
  • Identifies and leverages storylines to garner media opportunities that bring the business strategy and Mission to life.
  • Develop and execute integrated plans in partnership with communications colleagues across Medtronic and global regions, to support programs including select product launches, healthcare congresses, select disease awareness and direct-to-patient campaigns, and other critical events and special projects. 
  • Executes the writing, editing and approval of event scripts, speeches, key documents and reports, promotional materials, press releases, interviews, FAQs and other external and internal communications vehicles as defined.
  • Supports senior leadership in communicating to external audiences.
  • Analyzes the effectiveness of communications efforts, governs and improves existing processes, and incorporates new technology and techniques to improve our communications with key stakeholders.

Manages communications contractors and external agencies to support projects as needed.

Must Have:

Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years in a communications role within a corporate or agency setting; OR Advanced Degree with 5+ years of experience

Nice to Have:
  • Experience in cardiovascular or healthcare (i.e. regulated industry like medical device, pharma or biotech)
  • Experience in public relations (agency), corporate communications, journalism, or related field
  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills
  • Experience in change management communications
  • Exceptional verbal, writing, editing and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Executive presence and the ability to interact with leaders across the function and manage information with high levels of discretion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization, including understanding and previous experience working in a matrix environment

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$109,600.00 - $164,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
