RTL Back End Design Engineer

Natcast (short for The National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology) is a new, purpose-built, non-profit entity created to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) consortium, established by the CHIPS Act of the U.S. government.

Working at Natcast represents an opportunity to help extend America’s leadership in semiconductor technology, significantly reduce the time and cost of moving from idea to commercialization, and build and sustain a semiconductor workforce development ecosystem.

These efforts to advance semiconductor technology and seed new industries built on the capabilities of a wide range of advanced chips hold the potential to benefit the country and the world for generations to come.

In this role you will drive semiconductor manufacturing excellence by implementing advanced RTL-to-GDSII flows that transform innovative designs into manufacturable silicon solutions. 

Every day you will consult and guide customers in creating and optimizing complete design flows taking RTL through synthesis, placement, and other tasks necessary to create GDSII databases of designs. Solving complex implementation challenges to ensure successful design realizations while advancing America's semiconductor capabilities. 

To thrive in this role you must combine deep back-end design expertise with strong process knowledge, demonstrating mastery of implementation methodologies while delivering robust silicon solutions.

Responsibilities: 

  • Consult on, design, and implement RTL-to-GDSII design flows and methodologies 

  • Drive design flow improvements 

  • Debug implementation issues 

  • Ensure manufacturability requirements 

  • Coordinate with foundry partners 

  • Guide users through implementation flows 

 

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering 

  • 7+ years back-end design experience 

  • Expert knowledge of SystemVerilog/Verilog 

  • Strong background in VHDL 

  • Experience with RTL synthesis and equivalence check tools 

  • Expertise in timing and power analysis, placement, routing, design rule checks 

  • Deep understanding of PDKs 

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities 

  • Technical documentation skills 

 

Bonus Points if you have the Following: 

  • Semiconductor manufacturing experience 

  • Multiple process node expertise 

  • Physical design background 

  • DFM optimization experience 

  • Technical training capabilities
