Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

Our Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) portfolio is a powerhouse collection of consumer-first brands, supported by media industry leaders, Comcast, NBCUniversal and Sky. The Global Delivery team drives the delivery of our roadmaps across Peacock and international streaming propositions – working with cross-functional teams across the organization. The VP of Global Delivery, Experience is accountable for the delivery of initiatives in support of the product roadmap, from complex and large-scale endeavors through to small features and changes – applying appropriate delivery methodologies to assure successful outcomes without unnecessary bureaucracy.

We are looking for a seasoned delivery leader, who can combine exceptional delivery expertise with strong relationship management skills and industry knowledge to ensure consistent execution of this ambitious roadmap. Leading a team of over 30 delivery experts, the role covers an extensive portfolio – from customer acquisition, retention, and partnerships – through to content discovery, personalization, advertising, and playback.

This position will report to the Senior Vice President of Global Delivery and will work in a highly matrixed structure, working with the product and engineering functions to ensure clear articulation of priorities and backlog are translated into a robust roadmap for execution. A broad understanding of the streaming business and technology functions, as well as the software delivery lifecycle, will be critical for this role.

Responsibilities:

Core Delivery:

  • Accountable for the delivery of the overall product portfolio end-to-end, driving a robust roadmap that provides confidence across the short, medium and long-term.
  • Balance the need to drive on-time delivery in the short-term, with the importance of projecting confidence in the longer term – driving teams to the appropriate level of detail at each stage of the lifecycle.
  • Work with engineering teams across the organization to ensure that the committed roadmap and pipeline are well articulated, understood and managed against available capacity.
  • Provide leadership across matrixed teams to ensure alignment on priorities and activities and support rapid decision making when needed.
  • Support the overall product and technology strategy by facilitating cross-functional engagement, providing key inputs to support scoping and planning across complex and innovative initiatives.

Ways-of-Working:

  • Maintain a strong focus on agility and velocity – putting in place appropriate structure and governance that empowers teams to iterate rapidly, whilst maintaining alignment to overall roadmap and objectives.
  • Maintain a focus on continuous improvement, identifying recurring themes and root causes for any issues in delivery, and take corrective action as required – obtaining senior stakeholder buy-in where appropriate.
  • Identify areas of inefficiency within the delivery processes, ways-of-working, or technology estate that are impacting velocity – and work with leadership and architecture to identify and implement strategic changes to correct.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead a team of over 30 delivery experts, focused on the day-to-day running of the end-to-end initiatives to a successful outcome, whilst keeping level of meetings and governance to a minimum.
  • Establish appropriate monitoring and controls to support team empowerment whilst enabling rapid detection and intervention of delivery issues.
  • Coach and mentor the delivery team to ensure a consistently high performance across the organization, including both line reports and those matrixed into the organization.

Governance & Communication:

  • Establish senior level governance and controls, as appropriate, to manage competing priorities, drive decision making, and ensure ongoing alignment across all teams.
  • In addition to maintaining medium and long-term plans, ensure the right forums are in place to support tactical “on the ground” decision making, keeping control of the day-to-day.
  • Ensure effective communication both within and external to the delivery team, and that the team are clear on goals and objectives. Act as first point of escalation, providing assistance and guidance throughout delivery.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 15 years’ experience in a program or delivery role, including 7+ years delivering complex, multi-work stream programs or portfolios. Able to demonstrate successful practical application of agile delivery principles across multiple complex cross-functional initiatives and teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in agile software delivery, including in-depth knowledge of the full software delivery lifecycle, from initial idea through deployment.
  • Proven recent track record of software delivery within the OTT, media or digital sector, with demonstrable experience working across both product and engineering teams. Good understanding of the global media landscape, and personalization’s influence in this.
  • Proven ability in leading and motivating team members across disparate global functions. Track record of building successful teams and identifying and correcting any areas of underperformance – line managed teams of 10+ individuals.

  • Established industry expert in program management techniques and agile delivery – consistently excels on execution and has personally delivered multiple complex software initiatives.
  • Passionate about velocity and bringing about change through rapid iteration. Able to show through previous examples leading broad portfolio of change across multiple teams with regular and meaningful deliveries – supporting both large and small initiatives.
  • Comfortable operating in a highly dynamic environment, able to respond quickly to executive asks, and supporting planning of complex initiatives in an iterative manner to inform key business decisions.
  • Able to accurately articulate confidence as part of planning, managing stakeholder expectations and has a reputation for predictable delivery.
  • Good understanding of the product design & execution processes, and the importance of experimentation to measuring impact, success and driving learnings for future iterations.
  • Capability to take initial ideas, concepts and strategy and shape into tangible and deliverable items. Good understanding of technology concepts to be able to intelligently with SMEs to help drive initiating of strategic initiatives.
  • Willing to challenge the norm, demonstrable experience influencing others to adapt ways-of-working in order to drive up efficiency and delivery success.
  • Natural team leader, able to delegate effectively, empowering individuals whilst maintaining appropriate controls and monitoring – at scale.
  • Pro-active approach to delivery, identifying and neutralizing threats to success; positive approach to addressing conflict.
  • Calm under pressure, able to make quick and rational decisions and maintain the focus of the team. Demonstrable experience tackling conflict across teams, able to mediate and chart a path forward when faced with disagreement.
  • Expertise in establishing appropriate governance across complex programs and portfolios, ensuring timely decision making and communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, ability to tailor to all levels of an organization. Ability to explain the how and the why, not just the what and when.
  • Track record building and maintaining stakeholder relationships across divisions.
  • An eye for detail, able to maintain appropriate level of knowledge across a broad portfolio of change, being able to respond to executive stakeholder queries and needs – and dive deep into an initiative or plan when required.
  • Educated to Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent, with background in technology or software engineering; relevant project or program management qualification.
