Director, Platform Engineering

We are seeking a Director, Platform Engineering to lead engineering teams responsible for infrastructure operations, cloud services, and internal platforms. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this operational role is focused on delivering scalable, secure, and developer-friendly infrastructure and services that support our products and internal engineering needs. The ideal candidate will bring strong executional pace and a passion for building teams that move quickly and thoughtfully.

Responsibilities

  • Lead infrastructure operations with a focus on reliability, scalability, and incident response.

  • Manage our cloud infrastructure with AWS as the primary provider, with strong attention to cost optimization and efficient resource usage.

  • Guide and grow international teams across internal platforms, cloud services, and data platform engineering.

  • Define and execute a platform strategy that serves internal engineering teams as customers.

  • Uphold security and compliance standards, including SOC 2.

  • Support team operations including ticket creation, backlog management, and project planning.

  • Foster a developer-centric culture focused on automation, usability, and self-service.

  • Collaborate across stream-aligned product teams to ensure alignment.

Requirements

  • A proven ability to move quickly through problem-solving cycles with strong judgment around where to be meticulous and where to optimize for speed.

  • Strong experience with AWS (our primary cloud provider), including its infrastructure, networking, and security services.

  • 10+ years in engineering, including 5+ years in managing technical teams and 5+ years in a startup environment.

  • Experience leading a cross-functional engineering team across multiple international locations, ensuring alignment on project goals, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Expertise in infrastructure management, release tooling, IAM, observability, and cloud-native delivery.

  • Experience in B2B SaaS environments and platform operations.

  • History of delivering and finishing projects rapidly, with clear examples of high-output execution and momentum.

  • Deep comfort with ambiguity and decision-making under uncertainty; able to guide teams through tradeoffs confidently.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

  • Proficiency with Kubernetes

Nice to Have

  • Experience building data platforms (e.g. CDC, ClickHouse).

  • Open-source experience or contributions.

  • Background in networking or distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with Python, Django, and the NetBox ecosystem.

  • Familiarity with Golang, Postgres, Terraform and GitHub Actions.

  • Experience with AI tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor)
