Student Worker- ASUN Director of Campus and Public Relations

Job Description

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national and international levels. 

 

Responsibilities 

The duties of the Director of Public and Campus Relations are as follows: 

  • To focus on increasing the visibility of the Association in the greater campus, local, state and national communities. 

  • To draft media releases for the Association with approval from the President. 

  • Produce multimedia-content to release weekly updates to the students about ASUN including but not limited to new initiatives, allocations of funds, passed legislation and upcoming events. 

  • To provide a vision statement and blueprint for Inkblot to provide for consistency in branding, messaging and design of ASUN by meeting weekly with the Creative Director of Inkblot to assess the progress of brand management and ensure the brand and its message is relevant. 

  • To form focus groups and committees at the President’s request to collect student concern on local, national and campus issues. The committee shall be composed of, but not limited to, students, faculty and community leaders. 

  • To act as President if, by reason of death, resignation, removal from office, inability, or failure to qualify, there is no President, Vice President, Speaker of the Senate, Director of Clubs and Organizations, Director of Programming or Attorney General to act as President. 

  • To advise the Senate regarding the efficacy of its outreach efforts. 

  • To have a report read or spoken into record at minimum every other Senate meeting. 

  • To cross-promote relevant content between the Association’s digital media platforms including but not limited to newsletters, blog posts and social media. 

  • Responsible for attending all ASUN retreats and trainings as decided by the President and the Director of Executive Outreach. 

Required Qualifications 

During my tenure in this appointed position, I agree to adhere to the following guidelines: 

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno 

  • Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 credits 

  • Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents 

  • Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct 

  • Meet all deadlines set forth, attend all required meetings and training, work scheduled hours, properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time, assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada, behave in a manner that is ethical, maintain a high level of integrity 

  • Other duties as called upon by my position 

I understand if I do not adhere to the items outlined in this agreement or what is stated in the ASUN Governing Documents, my position may be subject to disciplinary action by the ASUN Judicial Council and/or the University of Nevada. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in fields such as marketing, journalism, communication studies and/or related fields through course of study, previous work experience or extracurricular activities 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively represent the Executive Branch internally and externally 

  • Proficiency to lead a cohesive team 

  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with politically, ideologically and culturally diverse people and communities 

  • Excellent organization and project management skills in a team-based environment with multiple projects 

  • Flexibility and adaptability within role; ability to time manage and prioritize tasks 

  • Willingness to mentor an intern during the fall and spring semesters

This includes specific ideas for defining and advancing the brand image, reach and understanding of ASUN across diverse avenues as well as specific ideas for collaboration and events with a proposed timeline for April 2025 - April 2026. 

Writing Sample - (required) Please submit at least one sample of your writing that highlights your skills in crafting statements and news/journalistic pieces. This sample can be drawn from your previous academic coursework or professional experiences.
