Purpose

Identify, plan and execute all development, alumni and donor communications efforts in the Cockrell School of Engineering through effective proposal writing, story creation and executive communications with the Chief Development Officer and the Dean of the School.   Focus on $500K+ proposals to support the Cockrell Development Teams quest to secure $1B during the What Starts Here Campaign. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the content development, including the strategy, research and writing, for all fundraising- and stewardship-focused communications projects and materials, including campaign proposals, thank you letters, pledge forms, pitch decks, fact sheets, web pages and other print and digital collateral for current and prospective individual, foundation and some corporate  donors.

  • Advised by Development and Marketing and Communications leadership, manage executive communications for the Dean of the School with roughly 40-50 events each year requiring persuasive messages in scripts, slide decks,  emails, social media and other channels to inspire the Texas Engineering community.

  • Work closely with members of the Marketing and Communications team to manage event communications for alumni and donor events, including invitations, programs, signage, presentations talking points and scripts, and other materials.

  • Develop consistent flow of alumni and donor profiles, major gift announcements and other alumni-related editorial pieces that celebrate the impact of giving and inform our community. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of professional experience in communications, marketing, fundraising or public environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage numerous projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of colleagues and key partners at all levels within the organization.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and basic knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in specialized development work, in particular writing and producing persuasive content for fundraising purposes.

  • Experience working in a stewardship or advancement program.

  • Experience working in development within a higher education environment.

  • Experience creating invitations and event collateral.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with both the Adobe Creative Cloud and website content management systems.

Salary Range

$65,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Work outside of normal business hours may be required on an occasional basis.

  • Work is performed in a shared office environment under dynamic circumstances and competing deadlines.

Work Shift

  • Standard work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

  • Periodic work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings and weekends, may be required on a periodic basis or for special events.

Employment Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
