Design Studio Associate

The Thuma Product team is accepting applications to join our lean, fast-growing team composed of highly motivated creatives with a rigorous attention to detail. The Design Studio Associate role encompasses supporting the design studio’s operations, streamlining the Industrial Design team’s product development and prototyping process, and helping design and build out our expanding headquarters. Thuma’s quickly growing product design team hires and invests in talent with multidisciplinary skill sets that are interested to grow with our brand for the long term.


Thuma’s Headquarters is based in the historic Presidio neighborhood of San Francisco. This role is based in San Francisco and requires daily travel to the office Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Track, receive and document product samples and prototypes shipments/deliveries to the San Francisco office
  • Physically manage product samples and prototypes at our HQ storage facility
  • Help build and expand our network of 3rd party material suppliers and prototyping vendors 
  • Assist Design Prototyping Lead with miscellaneous design studio projects and facility buildout
  • Help retrieve and send shipments and samples for user testing
  • Regularly update the design studio’s physical roadmap wall to match digital version
  • Facilitate design team with documenting product design and development process
  • Setup and stage project platform areas and photography studio for weekly sample and prototype reviews with leadership
  • Assist in developing, managing, and keeping track of material library assets
  • Help monitor studio supplies and ensure studio equipment is properly maintained 
  • Maintain studio organization, aesthetic, and cleanliness
  • Assist with general studio tasks as directed by the Design Director


What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree recommended
  • 1-3+ years of experience working in the design or arts industry
  • Interest in art, design, furniture, interiors, space-planning
  • Comfortable working in workshop and/or warehouse environments
  • Basic knowledge of woodworking and operating hand/power tools
  • Physical ability and strength to lift and move packages, carrying samples and prototypes (up to 75 lbs), and working on your feet for extended periods
  • A healthy obsession for quality, detail, and aesthetics
  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills - must be articulate and prompt in correspondence with team and vendors
  • Team player and show enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
  • Resourcefulness, ability to quickly adapt and problem solve 
  • Able to multitask effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn Google Workplace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • 3D CAD and Adobe Creative Suite proficiency is a plus (able to space plan and read plan drawings)


$70,000 - $90,000 a year
Thuma provides an estimate of the compensation for roles that may be hired as required by state regulations. Compensation may vary based on (a) location, as Thuma factors in specific location when benchmarking compensation for most roles; (b) individual candidate skills and qualifications; and (c) individual candidate experience.

Additionally, Thuma leverages current market data to determine compensation, so posted compensation figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.
