Data Center Design & Construction Consultant

Utilities One is seeking an experienced Data Center Design & Construction Consultant to provide expert guidance on the planning, design, and execution of data center construction projects. This consultant will work closely with our internal teams and external partners to ensure that projects are completed efficiently, within budget, and to the highest industry standards.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both data center design and construction and will play a key role in advising on best practices, risk mitigation, and process optimization. This is a 1099 contract role, requiring flexibility to engage with stakeholders, provide strategic recommendations, and oversee critical project phases as needed.

  • Type: 1099 Independent Contractor

Responsibilities

Strategic Advisory & Planning

  • Provide expert consultation on data center design, engineering, and construction strategies.
  • Evaluate project feasibility, budget estimates, and risk factors to ensure smooth execution.
  • Develop best practice guidelines for scalable and cost-effective data center builds.

Design Review & Optimization

  • Assess architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical system designs to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Recommend design modifications to improve operational efficiency, sustainability, and energy management.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align project designs with business objectives.

Construction Oversight & Risk Management

  • Advise on contractor selection, procurement strategies, and construction methodologies.
  • Monitor project progress, identifying potential risks, delays, or budget overruns.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and industry certifications.

Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination

  • Act as a liaison between architects, engineers, vendors, and project managers.
  • Review contracts, bids, and proposals to ensure cost-effectiveness and project alignment.
  • Provide regular reports, recommendations, and insights to senior management.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience: 10+ years in data center design and construction, with significant experience as a consultant or project advisor.

Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of BIM, AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, Procore, and construction best practices.

Consulting Skills: Proven ability to assess project challenges, provide solutions, and drive efficiency.

Communication & Leadership: Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with LEED, Uptime Institute standards, and local building codes.
