Department:  Engineering 

Supervisor:  Director of Engineering & Technology

Status:  Hourly / Non-Exempt / 40 Hours Per Week

Location: Portland, OR / in person / in office
 

All Classical Radio seeks a Manager of Radio & Digital Operations

The Radio & Digital Operations Manager oversees the station's daily technical operations on and off the air (radio, web, digital platforms) in collaboration with programming and engineering management. The Operations Manager oversees the automation system for live and unattended programs, ensuring the delivery of programming as well as sponsor, partner, and public service messages. The position is responsible for helping to ensure the quality and accuracy of on-air production of station programs and systems, and the emergency alert system, and works in tandem with the Radio Host / Technical Liaison and the Director of Engineering and Technology in the training of on-air personnel in the proper operation of audio equipment. This position reports to the Director of Engineering and Technology and is part of a team committed to continuous excellence and improvement in our broadcast processes and infrastructure.
 

Essential Functions
 

Traffic Scheduling and Reconciling

- Processes radio underwriting insertion orders into ENCO, works in tandem with Underwriting Dept. to assign copy, set spot schedules, assign ENCO cuts to each underwriting credit, send confirmations, and schedule make goods as needed.

- Oversees playlist reporting and acts as the liaison to the reporting service provider(s).

- Oversees daily ingestion of music and traffic logs into the automation system.
 

Digital Audio / Automation

- Technically ensures smooth programming and the maintenance of on-air, digital, and broadcast automation systems for All Classical Radio and ICAN Radio program schedules. 

- Provides support and assistance for daily station and program operations.

- Monitors broadcast operations and troubleshoots when programming is interrupted.

- Trains on-air hosts and non-host studio operators in studio and equipment operation, including updating the operator’s manual with new or updated procedures.
 

IT Duties and Engineering Assistance

- Monitors all studio broadcast equipment to ensure it is functioning properly, works with the Engineering team to address any issues, and supports regular equipment maintenance and repairs.

- Surveys equipment and software needs and researches and recommends solutions, new integrations, replacements, and upgrades to maintain and improve broadcast programming operations.

- Troubleshoots any non-routine situations, including after-hours emergency support, related to on-air delivery or broadcast equipment with support from Engineering.

- With Engineering, oversees technical requirements and implementation for remote broadcasts, on-air fundraising, and other special events, as needed.

Streaming / Web Content Delivery 

- Working with Webmaster, surveys all digital platforms (including smart devices and smart speakers) to ensure audiences can access All Classical Radio and ICAN Radio on their chosen device - acting as a digital/tech “genius.”
 

Other Duties and Responsibilities

- Provides systems analysis and solutions, and coordination and technical support of all areas of on-air operations.

- Acts as backup and support for key station and program operations during attended and unattended operations.

- Provides technical support and assistance to national and international programming organizations and syndicates as required.

- May periodically serve as backup to the Director of Engineering and Technology.

- Trains hosts/board operators and serves as a fill-in board operator as needed, including for the station’s weekly live show, Thursdays @ Three

- Maintains current SOPs for all duties associated with the position. 

- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of directly related experience. A minimum of 2 years of direct radio operations experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Preferred: Experience with automation systems, experience with ENCO, Radio Traffic, Music Master, Allegiance, Sound Exchange, PRX, Content Depot, AWS, and smart devices.


Required skills and abilities:

- Must be able to respond when designated to be on call for the radio station.

- Knowledge of radio organizational structures, workflows, systems, and operating procedures.

- Familiarity with F.C.C. rules and regulations.

- Familiarity with broadcasting equipment and systems.

- Strong computer and information system skills, including knowledge of smart devices and smart speakers

- Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Strong project management ability.

- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects.

- Self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.

- Proficient with spreadsheets and Microsoft office suite/OneDrive

- Must be able to maintain self-motivation, goal orientation, and creativity in a 24/7 radio station environment.

- Must have excellent "client service" related skills and ability. 

- Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to operate independently in the performance of essential functions.

- Ability to prioritize, multitask and work effectively under tight deadlines.

The employee must frequently move or transport up to 25 pounds and occasionally move or transport up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the office and communicate with staff, volunteers and the community. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. The employee is required to operate computer and other radio/broadcasting equipment.

Pay is competitive and dependent upon qualifications and experience. The expected salary range is $25.64/hr. - $30.16/hr. Benefits package includes health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) employer match, paid holidays, and generous starting PTO. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
