Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Web Developer contractor to redesign and enhance our police department's public-facing ArcGIS Hub website (www.FCPoD.org). The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong communication skills to create an intuitive, accessible, and modern web presence.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead the redesign of Fairfax County police department's ArcGIS Hub website, ensuring a user-friendly interface with optimal performance.
- Develop and implement responsive web designs using HTML, CSS, and possible JavaScript.
- Collaborate with various department stakeholders to gather requirements and incorporate design feedback.
- Optimize website content and structure to improve public access to police department resources and information - Construct website to function within multiple platforms, devices and monitor constraints.
- Ensure website compliance with accessibility standards and security requirements - Document all development work and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams.
Required Technical Skills:
- Proven experience with HTML5 and CSS3 - Strong JavaScript programming skills
- Experience with ESRI software, ArcGIS Hub platform and web development
- Understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility
- Version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Knowledge of web security best practices
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of web development experience.
- Portfolio demonstrating previous web development projects.
- Experience working with government or public sector websites preferred.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

- Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Collaborative approach to working with multiple departments.
