The Business Cards & Payments Finance Team is seeking a Principal Financial Analyst to support the Business Card strategy. Business Card strategy is at the intersection of our Credit Card and Commercial businesses. This role specifically will support and fully own the Business Card P&L and forecast revenue and volumes. There will be opportunities to model P&L scenario planning and perform ad hoc analysis in support of strategic initiatives. This role includes data analysis, forecasting, and strategic partnership with the business. Storytelling on top of a deep understanding of the complex revenue, credit and cost dynamics of the business will be needed. The ideal candidate is someone who is analytically curious, enjoys financial analytics, and is excited to help drive an essential aspect of the business’s strategy.
Principal Financial Analysts perform financial data analysis in preparing Profit & Loss or other statements and frequently build reports for higher level associates. They provide management and business clients with project statuses as well as perform reporting and analysis to support presentations and ad-hoc requests.
The role requires strong analytics, communication, problem solving, strategic thinking, and influencing skills in order to effectively:
Conduct analysis and articulate outcomes and relevant insights
Develop presentations for senior audiences to communicate insights and to influence business and financial outcomes
Partner with business teams to assess the financial implications of ongoing and proposed efforts to optimize business performance
Foster trusted business partnerships
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Responsibilities:
Financial reporting and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and Profit & Loss (P&L) management
Coordinate and collect input data from Financial Analysts in different departments, check data integrity, summarize and convert data, run models, verify, analyze, and communicate output data
Assist in development of business presentations to communicate analytical results to senior audiences; clearly articulate outcomes of analysis and make recommendations to leadership
Independently manage and prioritize workload
Address and deliver on ad-hoc requests and special projects, often in an ambiguous environment
Demonstrate a passion to learn and continuously develop FP&A and technical skills
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 3 years’ experience in financial analysis
At least 3 years’ experience with financial modeling
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) Accounting, Finance, or Economics
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) license or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
At least 4+ years’ experience in financial analysis
At least 4+ years’ experience with financial modeling
3+ years’ experience in strategic analysis and planning
Experience in Microsoft Excel and G Suite
Demonstrated independent problem solving and strategic thinking abilities
Strong teamwork skills; ability to positively contribute to overall success of the team
Sequel and Python skills

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Financial Analyst
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
