The role
Please note: This is a hybrid-based position in line with our global company policy with 3 days per week in our Atlanta Office.
We’re looking for a strong Underwriter with a background in payments and/or financial analysis to join our NORAM Underwriting team. You will be part of a team that is responsible for underwriting enterprise customer applications with a focus on analysis relevant to Business Models, Credit Exposure, Due Diligence, Financial Analysis, and Scheme Rules.
This role offers a unique exposure to our core business areas, collaborating closely with our key internal players (Business Development, Financial Partnerships, Sales, Risk, Compliance, Legal teams, and Senior Management) and our high-value merchants and partners.
How you’ll make an impact:
Conduct business model analysis in line with internal policy guidelines and apply evaluation techniques to achieve the desired results for complex deals.
Calculate exposure in line with existing guidance, with the ability to tailor the approach based on merchant specifics.
Complete financial analysis of profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements and demonstrate a competent understanding of accounting principles.
Experience in underwriting high-risk lines of business including travel, furniture, ticket and events, securities, gambling etc.
Prepare detailed oral and written summaries to assess micro and macro risks, mitigating factors, and make balanced recommendations to present to management, the Credit Risk Committee, and Checkout’s partner bank.
Represent Underwriting in customer calls and meetings alongside Sales or Account Management.
Access and process Pay to Card and Pay to Bank applications.
Several years of work experience in the financial services/payments/digital banking sector wit a focus on merchant underwriting or similar underwriting roles.
Expert business model assessment and identification of credit risk exposure.
Strong knowledge of financial statement analysis and analyzing credit exposure.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, you have a ‘Customer First’ approach to delivering creative solutions for our merchants and will contribute to cross-team collaboration and building a ‘One Team’ culture.
Experience within Customer Due Diligence, KYC, and KYB.
Competent escalation management - act with urgency to ensure escalations are prioritized, owned, and resolved effectively.
You have a passion for operational improvement initiatives and can contribute to broader department initiatives and projects.
New York City law requires Checkout.com to include in job postings a reasonable estimated salary range for this position. However, exact compensation may vary subject to several factors such as a candidate’s level, relevant experience, qualifications, skills and proficiency for the role.
The information provided here is applicable to those working in the New York City office. However, this role may also open to applicants from other US locations and will be advised on the relevant pay for that location.
For regular full-time employees in Atlanta, Georgia, the estimated base salary for this role is $76,500 to $90,000 per year. Additionally, this role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus.
