The Director, Continuous Improvement (CI) will provide leadership, direction, and oversight of continuous improvement efforts for improved operational efficiency across all manufacturing sites within the Surface Solutions Business Unit. This leader will report directly to the VP, Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement and be a part of the Continuous Improvement Leadership team. This role will be accountable for developing, leading, and reviewing all continuous improvement initiatives across the enterprise, as well as their own leadership team of Continuous Improvement leaders and personnel. The CI Director will lead collective efforts to discover new and better ways of doing things that will move Surface Solutions forward in operational excellence and execution. The goal of this position is to ensure that continuous improvement efforts provide financial savings and sustainable process improvement across Surface Solutions manufacturing locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop and maintain a lean manufacturing culture, resulting in significant productivity gains across the organization
Work with the Regional and Site leadership teams to support the development of their CI roadmaps, linked to our strategic development plans
Lead and direct CI resources across multiple business units and manufacturing groups
Collaborate with key leaders to identify improvement areas. Build consensus for organizational changes, and drive improvement initiatives including review of Business SOPs.
Demonstrate deep knowledge of internal data, company processes and market information to provide key insights to identify gaps in business, and drive growth, quality, and operational efficiency
Lead effort to standardize processes and procedures to meet company objectives and customer expectations
Foster a culture, including ways of working and behaviors, that is congruent with our mission, values, and success model.
Lead and/or facilitate kaizen events, delivering breakthrough and sustainable results
Invest significant effort on talent offense and aligning training and development of teams to mindsets and skillsets important to the future of our business. Teach, coach, direct, and inform other continuous improvement professionals to promote performance and encourage professional development.
Inform training processes for everyone who handles or interacts with the process.
This position requires extensive travel and the ability to communicate to all levels of the organization, including the President and CEO. Travel could be international with passport required.
Minimum of 15 years progressive experience in the manufacturing operations field and/or leadership roles
Proven expertise in Continuous Improvement. This includes the creation and execution of enterprise-wide CI processes and measures.
Minimum of 5 years in people management role.
Six Sigma Black Belt certification, Master Black Belt preferred
Ability to build strong business relationships and work collaboratively across multiple functions and regions
Demonstrated success in process improvement for reduction in waste, reduction in cost and/or improvement in process control
Ability to integrate, align and influence diverse cross stream and cross functional teams
Demonstrated ability to utilize data, strategic thinking skills, intuition, and influence to solve critical and real work problems
Proven experience in effectively working with complex manufacturing process issues with large customers and vendors
Ability to work in an ambiguous and fast paced environment - decide fast, fail fast, and what's next
Extensive knowledge and experience in Production Systems, Lean Manufacturing Deployment/Transformation
