Humana’s Insurance Segment Strategy team plays a pivotal role in defining the future of Humana’s Medicare and Medicaid businesses, which generate the majority of the company’s total revenue and earnings. Comprised of experienced professionals from top-tier consulting firms and leading healthcare organizations, the team works closely with senior leaders across the enterprise to drive high-profile strategy projects that address the business’s most complex challenges and biggest opportunities.
Humana is seeking a team member with prior strategy consulting experience or professional experience leveraging core strategy skills to join this team. As an Insurance Strategy Consultant, you will directly contribute to high-impact strategy projects, engage with senior leadership, and develop actionable recommendations that shape Humana’s long-term direction. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role where your insights will help inform Board-level discussions and enterprise-wide strategic priorities.
As a Consultant, you will be responsible for leading key workstreams within the Insurance Segment Strategy team’s project portfolio, including deconstructing complex business challenges, conducting targeted research and analysis, and developing sound, data-driven recommendations that help guide Humana’s strategic direction. Your role will be instrumental in synthesizing strategic choices being made across the business unit into cohesive, actionable plans that drive both growth and profitability while improving the health of Humana’s members. You will also help shape implementation considerations and work closely with business owners to transition strategies into execution, ensuring that recommendations translate into meaningful business impact.
Recent example projects include development of a 5-year growth strategy for Humana’s Insurance business, developing a refreshed membership acquisition strategy, identifying key go-to-market priorities, assessing the performance of strategic initiatives and business areas, evolving key facets of the Medicare Advantage growth strategy, and identifying improvement opportunities for a key business function.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high quality analysis and deliverables that clearly frame objectives, issues/challenges, and articulate compelling, insightful findings, conclusions, and recommendations
Manage and deliver workstreams within high-profile, high-impact strategy projects
Develop hypotheses to be validated or refined through targeted research and analysis
Conduct interviews and working sessions with stakeholders across the company
Conduct industry, market, competitor, and financial analysis
Prepare executive-level presentations and materials for senior leadership and the Board of Directors
Support the annual strategic planning process and ongoing business reviews
Be a steward of the strategy team’s operating model, norms and ways of working
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
2+ years of full-time work experience with a leading management consulting firm and/or 3+ years of professional experience in a role that required core consulting skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop structured insights from complex data
Excellent communication skills, including experience preparing and delivering presentations
Highly collaborative, flexible, team-oriented working style
Demonstrated ability working within a matrixed environment
Preferred Qualifications
MBA, MPH, or other relevant advanced degree
Healthcare industry experience, particularly in managed care or provider sectors

This role reports to the Director of Strategy, works collaboratively with members of rest of the team, and with senior leadership throughout the company.
