Technical Producer

At LumiQ, we’re on a mission to make professional education enjoyable. As a modern, audio-first learning platform, we empower accounting and finance professionals to fulfill their continuing professional development requirements through engaging podcasts. Over the past five years, we’ve cultivated a devoted customer base of over 1,000 corporate and accounting firms across North America.

LumiQ is proud to be a 2024 Deloitte Fast 50 winner. We’re creating awesome proprietary content, nailing our go-to-market strategy, and being the first to shake up the industry. Most recently, we secured a strategic investment from Vertu Capital to fuel our expansion globally and continue executing on our exponential growth plans.

LumiQ is also a certified Great Place to Work! We’re all about transparency, ownership, innovation, and empathy. If you’re ready to make a real impact and help us transform professional education, we’d love to hear from you!

We are looking for a Technical Producer to help us disrupt the professional education industry and create the world’s best CPD content!

This is a unique opportunity to use your accounting designation in a creative way, provide value to the CPA community, and be part of a fast-paced growing company. This role is a unique blend of education, content creation, and accounting knowledge, and provides a great opportunity to grow your professional network and brand within the CPA community.

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Education, the Technical Producer will be responsible for executing on the technical content learning curriculum, finding appropriate guests for each topic, conducting research, and ensuring an educational and enjoyable finished podcast. You’ll learn how to create a podcast from scratch, from pre-production all the way to a polished finished product (don’t worry, prior production experience is not necessary!).

Who You Are:
  • You have a recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CIA, etc.)
  • 3-5 years of experience, either in public accounting or industry
  • You have experience in some of the following areas: accounting, audit, advisory, Client Accounting/Advisory Services (CAS), finance, technology, industry-expertise, etc. You are comfortable explaining technical topics in an easy to digest way. Expertise in IFRS, US GAAP, and Canadian/US audit standards is preferred. If you don’t know it—you can research and learn it quickly. You don’t need to be an expert in every topic, but instead be able to synthesize the expertise of our guests to create something accurate and uniquely interesting in professional learning.
  • You are a critical thinker: You enjoy being able to use your judgment to decide which technical accounting and audit topics we should tackle, and the best way to present the information.
  • Collaboration and prioritization come easily to you: This role will require balancing multiple stakeholders, schedules, and team members' input. You will work closely with LumiQ hosts, to build each episode collaboratively.
  • You are very organized and detail-oriented: Because this role has multiple podcasts on the go at any given time, you’ve developed processes and strategies to stay extremely organized. You see updating the project management tracker as a key to success rather than an annoying administrative duty. When it comes to the accuracy of the content you will be creating, you are confident in your abilities to ensure everything is factual, while being digestible and enjoyable at the same time.
  • You are proactive: You do not sit around, waiting to be told what to do. You are great at anticipating problems before they happen and love to suggest ideas on how to make things better. If you think your experience is most of the way there we’d still love to meet you!

What You'll Be Responsible For:
  • Like any start up, you will be expected to wear many hats, but your main duties will revolve around accounting and audit learning and content creation. Our focus on the Technical Content team is currently on tax, accounting, and audit content applicable to both Canadian and US markets. As you progress in the role, your scope of duties and responsibilities will grow. In the beginning, your main responsibilities will include:
Develop Content:
  • Research and pitch technical topics for episodes.
Key topic areas include:
  • AccountingAudit (external and/or internal)
  • Industry deep dives on operational and financial insights
  • AI trends in the accounting profession
  • Client Accounting/Advisory Services (outsourced accounting)
  • Cybersecurity
  • FP&A Management accounting
Other Duties:
  • Find, schedule, prep, and coordinate appropriate guests for each topic, with support from the Production Coordinator
  • Create interview prep materials, including providing foundational research to support the interview and drafting interview questions for episodes
  • Support other hosts during interviews by keeping track of time, providing interesting follow-up questions, fact checking information, and monitoring for audio quality. We call this “live producing”
  • As you complete onboarding, you will work towards hosting your own episodes (don’t worry we will provide training!) You should feel comfortable with the idea of being in front of a microphone.
  • Review raw audio and make edits from a content perspective (prior audio editing experience not required), ensuring the content is engaging, concise, and achieves intended learning objectives
  • Write copy for each episode. Because this is an educational podcast that is only available on our platform, this will include: episode descriptions, quiz questions, speaker bio, glossary terms, visual aid, etc.
  • This role will require being open-minded to new ways of doing things, experimenting with new processes and systems, collaborating and providing feedback on what is and isn’t working. Every week may look a little different as we continue to rapidly scale

If you think your experience is most of the way, there we’d still love to meet you!

Please note this is a flexible hybrid role based out of Toronto, Canada. Employees will be expected to be able to commute to the office 2 times a week. However, for training & onboarding purposes, the in-office expectation time will increase.

Benefits and Perks:

- Health Benefits are available after 3 months with us, including a yearly health spending account. You'll also have access to an Employee Assistance Program for additional support if needed.

- Hybrid Work Style: The best of both worlds. Enjoy remote work and a downtown Toronto office with snacks, events, and ping pong.

- Monthly team social events: (Super Smash Bro party, hot chocolate bar, Blue Jays game, Hot One's Challenge are just a few examples of what we have done in the past).

- Schedule flexibility: We know our employees have lives outside of work and don’t mind if you need to run to a mid-day doctor's appointment or pick up a kid early from school!

- Nomad policy: Work remotely 4 weeks of the year from anywhere in the world.

- Endless Learning: Our platform isn't just for accountants. Listen to podcasts on soft skills, career development, leadership, and more.

- LumiQ Clubs: Join an existing club or start your own!
