Student Worker - Living With Fire

Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Living With Fire Program seeks a motivated UNR student for a student worker for the Spring 2025 semester. Living With Fire (LWF) works throughout Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin to help the public address the challenges of living with wildfire. This timely and important work helps communities across the region be more prepared for wildfire. Interns will work closely with LWF staff and several partner organizations on a range of tasks.
The Living With Fire Program is located off the main UNR campus at 4955 Energy Way, Reno, NV. While many of the hours can be completed remotely, we prefer candidates who can work most of the hours at the LWF office. 

Responsibilities

  • Support LWF staff with planning and implementation of the statewide Fire Adapted Nevada Summit in 2025

  • Support LWF with community engagement, education, and outreach

  • Create website, email, and social media content

  • Attend public outreach events representing LWF

  • Support program evaluation and data entry

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

  • Candidate must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week for the semester; we will accommodate your course schedule

  • Candidate must have clear and effective communication and writing skills

  • Candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively with the LWF team and independently on assigned projects

  • Candidate must have the ability to do light physical work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; light physical work requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing or pulling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates who have taken coursework related to agriculture, ecology, natural resource management, rangeland management, wildfire, journalism, or marketing and communications

  • Candidates that can work 15-20 hours per week are preferred; we will accommodate your course schedule

  • Candidates that can work most of their hours in the LWF office
