Right of Way Worker II

Overview

 

The Right-of-Way Worker II role trims trees to clear right-of-way for electric power lines to minimize

storm and short-circuit hazards for our line services team and coop members.

 

The position deals directly with safely operating power tools and heavy equipment in a team environment.

 

A successful candidate prioritizes safety, enjoys physical outdoor work year-round, identifies and mitigates

hazardous conditions, and values teamwork.

Responsibilities

Trims trees to clear right-of-way for electric power lines to minimize storm and short-circuit hazards by

performing the following duties. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope

and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of

Snapping Shoals EMC.  The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Climb trees to reach branches interfering with wires and distribution lines.
  • Prune treetops.
  • Operate spray gun from truck and/or backpack spray gun to release chemicals and/or herbicides onto right of way growth.
  • Operate and help maintain saws, chipper, hand tools and any other needed tools or equipment.
  • Remove broken limbs from wires.
  • Cut down trees interfering with power service.
  • Work from bucket of extended truck boom to reach limbs.
  • Assist in training new personnel when assigned to crew.
  • Operate tractor and bush hog.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Experience operating a chainsaw, bush hog and tractor
  • Experience operating a tree-trimming bucket truck
  • Knowledge of CPR and first aid
  • Read and comprehend/carry out detailed instructions
  • Work overtime as needed

Education and/or Experience

  • Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License and Medical Examiner's Certificate of Qualification Required
  • High school education or GED
  • One year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
