Are you passionate about making a lasting difference in the lives of Middle Schoolers? The Granite YMCA is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Y-STAY Teacher to join our team at Parkside Middle School in Manchester, NH. In this dynamic role, you'll work closely with students who are facing academic and personal challenges. Your goal will be to empower these students by supporting their educational progress, boosting their self-confidence, and fostering positive attitudes toward learning and life.


As a Y-STAY Teacher, you'll support students’ academic success and well-being through personalized tutoring, character development, and life skills education. You'll play a key role in fostering a supportive community, helping students grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Support & Life Skills Education: Tutor 20-25 students in academic subjects, focusing on improving grades, study habits, and test preparation. Teach life skills such as time management, problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork to help students develop self-reliance and positive behaviors.
  • Adventure-Based Learning & Community Engagement: Plan and lead adventure-based activities like hiking, skiing, and rock climbing to promote teamwork, resilience, and self-confidence.
  • Student Progress & Collaboration: Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and provide regular reports on academic and social-emotional development. Collaborate with school staff and families to ensure a strong support system for each student, offering updates and strategies for improvement.
  • Holistic Student Support: Mentor students and provide support for their academic, emotional, and social development, helping them grow personally and build self-esteem.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, such as working in social-emotional learning, life skills education, or with underserved populations
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to engage students and help them overcome barriers to success.
  • Comfort with leading and participating in adventure activities (e.g., hiking, skiing, rock-climbing).
  • Ability to tutor at the middle school level: 6th – 8th graders

Additional Responsibilities and Schedule:

  • Regular working hours to consist of school operational hours Monday - Friday
  • Outside of regular school hours, you will participate in twice a month staff meeting
  • Engage in YMCA of Downtown Manchester [KH3] community events such as Rock the Block, Brunch with Frosty, and other community engagement events in conjunction with the school district
  • Participation in additional community events is encouraged with 1-2 events per year being mandatory
