Job Description

U.S. Bank is currently seeking an External Communications Manager for the U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance, the community investment and tax credit arm of U.S. Bank. This person must be a storyteller who finds energy in finding, telling, pitching and landing stories that show how the Impact Finance can create economic opportunities that both do good in the communities we serve and are profitable. For more than 30 years, Impact Finance, a subsidiary of U.S. Bank, has used tax credit investments and syndications, lending and other financial solutions to create affordable housing, spur economic activity in underserved communities, restore historic buildings, develop renewable sources of energy and strengthen community development financial institutions. This is a new role and this person will report up through the Enterprise External Communications team. Additional responsibilities include:

  • This person will bring strong storytelling skills to the role and will be responsible for communication that demonstrates U.S. Bank’s long-term actions, commitments and achievements in this space;
  • This person will get energy from media relations and from finding opportunities to tell the story of Impact Finance as it grows revenue;
  • This person will work to build knowledge around topics including: Affordable housing, economic development, historic restoration, environmental finance and syndications;
  • This person will develop and implement a proactive external communications strategy, including media relations, while also working the CDC internal communicator;
  • Work closely with a combination of Impact Finance leaders and their teams, including providing communications counsel to them in an environment that is constantly evolving;
  • Evaluate speaking opportunities for Impact Finance leaders and support the booking, material preparation and execution of these opportunities;
  • Works closely with colleagues who support areas including DEI, CSR and ESG
  • Work across the broader Public Affairs and Communications team to ensure that CDC stories are aligned with overall PA&C strategy;
  • Evaluates complex information and strategically determines appropriate method of communication based on topic and company goals;

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- Ten or more years of experience in communications activities
- Two or more years of management experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

- 10 or more years of experience in communications activities

- Proven communication management skills, including strong writing and editing capabilities

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Strong research, analysis, and interviewing skills

- Well-developed organizational and project management skills

- Ability to negotiate and influence internal and external parties

- Ability to manage highly-complex projects with a multitude of stakeholders with the ultimate objective of driving business results

Location Expectations 
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $133,365.00 - $156,900.00 - $172,590.00
