Head of Data Protection & In-house DPO

How you’ll be contributing to Accurx as our Head of Data Protection & In-house DPO

The  privacy of our users is at the heart of everything that we do, be it in the way we build our products, or the way we train our staff, because at Accurx we believe that upholding our user’s trust is critical to us delivering on our important mission of ensuring everyone in a patient’s care can communicate with one another. 

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Data Protection and in-house DPO to help shape the next chapter of our privacy and data protection journey. This role is pivotal in ensuring that as we grow and innovate, we continue to protect the rights of our users and patients while enabling the business to move at pace.

You will be a key leader in our Technology division, reporting to and working as a trusted partner to the CISO, supporting the business through its next phase of growth, ensuring we remain at the forefront of safe and responsible digital health innovation. You’ll be instrumental in driving responsible innovation—especially as we expand into AI-powered products—and will champion privacy at the heart of everything we do.

  • Develop and own a forward-thinking data protection and privacy strategy that supports our mission of responsible innovation and positions privacy as a business enabler within a fast-paced HealthTech environment.

  • Act as the organisation’s statutory DPO, advising senior leadership on complex data protection issues specific to healthcare and digital health innovation.

  • Work as a trusted partner to the CISO, Exec team, and Product/Engineering teams to embed privacy and data ethics by design.

  • Be a key stakeholder in guiding how we responsibly leverage  AI into our products and safely roll them out to our customers, ensuring patient data is safeguarded at every stage.

  • Strengthen and expand the existing privacy programme, shifting our approach  from being compliance-focused to enabling innovation and building trust.

  • Manage and continuously develop a high-performing privacy and data protection function, coaching and mentoring the current team of three and scaling as needed.

  • Build strong relationships with external stakeholders including NHS bodies, regulators, and partners.

  • Support incident response and data breach management in partnership with Security and Legal teams.

  • Stay at the forefront of regulatory changes and trends in digital health, AI, and data ethics to future-proof the organisation’s approach to data protection.

  • Lead on complex DPIAs, data governance frameworks, and incident management processes alongside key stakeholders.

We'd really like to hear from you, if...

  • Strong track record of working within HealthTech, healthcare technology, or NHS digital ecosystems, with a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks such as the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECRs), and other relevant healthcare-specific requirements and standards, such as the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, NHS Information Governance Standards to name a few.

  • Proven ability to guide organisations through responsible innovation, particularly in areas where emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML) intersect with sensitive data.

  • Demonstrated experience in building and leading privacy or data protection teams, with the ability to grow capability, nurture talent, and foster a culture of trust and collaboration.

  •  Comfortable influencing at senior leadership level and partnering across technology, product, and clinical teams.

  •  A pragmatic, business-enabling approach with an understanding of balancing compliance with speed of execution in a scale-up environment.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, able to represent the business externally to regulators and partners.

💰 £100,000 - £120,000 salary dependent on experience + the value of £80,000 share options
