First 5 Program Assistant

The West County First 5 Center offers free activities in San Pablo that help parents nurture and support their young children so they grow up healthy, happy, and learning. Our programs focus on early learning opportunities for children, child development, parent education and leadership, and connections to community resources. Classes are for children ages 0-5 years and their parents to participate together in a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Our participants are dedicated to their children’s potential to thrive, and our team is dedicated to partnering with parents on this journey. The Program Assistant contributes to the efficient operations of the West County First 5 Center while creating a welcoming environment for participants. The Program Assistant has a commitment to children ages 0-5 years and the mission of the Center is critical. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to be flexible working with people with different perspectives, languages and backgrounds, and brings a creative, enthusiastic, and nurturing disposition to the Center. Cultural humility and ability to navigate the dynamics of difference with grace and self-awareness is key.

Benefits:

• Full Time: 40 hours/week, with some evenings and Saturdays
• Hourly Rate: $22-$24 (based on experience)

Minimum Requirements:

• 2+ years of experience in an administrative role OR Bachelor’s/Associate's degree
• ECE units and/or experience in a childcare setting is a plus
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication and strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to develop warm and supportive relationships with young children, parents, and community members of diverse populations, including English language learners
• Excellent typing skills and knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office and G Suite
• Quick learner, organized, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Possess strong commitment to team environment dynamics with the ability to communicate positively and listen empathically to participants and colleagues
• Spanish language capacity is a plus

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for ensuring the Center remains open and accessible to the community during the hours of operation, Monday through Friday
• Provide information regarding the First 5 Center’s mission and programs to new participants
• Answer and return phone calls and miscellaneous clerical duties
• Assist Center Director in creation of monthly calendar, online class enrollment form, and roster creation
• Facilitate class attendance and database entry for a small load of subcontracted classes
• Support with other database entry as needed
• Attention to detail to ensure accurate database entry
• Ensure lobby area is organized and presentable to the public
• Send Center-wide announcements to participants via Remind app
• Post relevant content to families’ needs and interests on Center’s social media
