Job Description

About the Role:

Guardant Health People Business Partners are responsible for partnering with leaders and their leadership teams to develop and implement people and culture strategies to drive business results as thought partners, trusted advisors, change agents, and consultants on topics related to talent within the business.  Working closely within the People Team to perform their role and responsibilities, the People Business Partner role models collaboration with centers of excellence such as Employee Experience, Total Rewards, Learning & Development, Talent Acquisition, People Operations, and Employee Relations.  
 
This People Business Partner, Director role is the ideal opportunity for someone who has extensive strategic and HR functional knowledge and thrives in managing multiple key people initiatives and different interactions with senior-level business leaders.  This role requires strong change management, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to plan and execute flawlessly on people-related activities (ex: organizational design, performance management cycles, employee engagement surveys, etc.). 
 
This role is based in our headquarters office, in Palo Alto, California, and requires in-office attendance three (3) days per week (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday).    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with leaders to offer thought leadership on organizational and people-related strategy and execution 
  • Role models our values and leadership principles to support our organizational culture
  • Develops a deep understanding of the business to appropriately guide and influence leaders on their talent agenda, including organizational design, external trends, benchmark analysis, etc.
  • Develops well-thought-through change management and communication plans and demonstrates end-to-end thinking
  • Applies expertise in the following areas: organizational design, strategic HR management, workforce planning, employee engagement, performance management, change management, career planning, coaching, analysis of people data, total rewards, learning and development, and recognition programs.
  • Leverages data and other metrics to proactively identify and present solutions based on business needs. Identifies and surfaces trends through both qualitative and quantitative data to help drive impact in the business 
  • Partners and drives results alongside other Centers of Excellence in the People Team (i.e., Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, People Operations, and Learning & Development) to help the People Team implement solutions that support and scale the business 

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience 
  • 12+ years of HR experience creating measurable impact on a major business unit (preferably in a high-growth company) with at least 5 years of experience as a People Business Partner (preferably supporting C-suite leadership managing G&A functions) 
  • Experience managing change and communications related to organizational design
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Senior Leadership (i.e., Vice President level) 
  • Demonstrates solid judgment and experience assessing risk relative to the business 
  • Ability to solve challenges and get to the root cause of any issue, no matter how complex. Design and quickly implement solutions that may cut across multiple disciplines.  
  • Experience with influencing, decision making, driving change, etc.
  • Self-motivated and assertive with the ability to hunt down answers and drive solutions autonomously 
  • Equally comfortable partnering with employees and leadership and moving regularly between the tactical and strategic priorities. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - must be an articulate and persuasive communicator. 
  • Displays strong business acumen – sees the big picture and operates with perspective

Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $155,920 to $210,460. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).

For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $194,900 to $263,070. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
