Strength and Endurance Coach

Do you have what it takes to inspire and train young athletes to reach their full potential?

Collaborate with our Head Coach to create enriching, supportive and memorable experiences for children enrolled in our program. This valuable and valued position assists the Head Swim Team Coach with a strength and injury prevention program to supplement the in-water swim team workouts.  Supporting high levels of community and accountability with participants is key to this role while supporting the overall mission and season plan outlined by the Head Coach. The Strength and Endurance coach will provide quality exercise instruction while delivering high-energy, motivating, joyful, and memorable class experiences for all participants.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Coaching Responsibilities: 

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based strength, conditioning, agility, power and speed training and coaching to a variety of young swimmers 
  • Prepare workouts on a weekly basis based on phase of training and swimmers’ needs/ability. 
  • Maintain a focus on technique, skill development and athlete development. 
  • Coordinate training methodologies, drills and practice group goals with Head Coach 
  • Work closely with the Aquatics staff and other coaches to promote the club as a whole. 
  • Participate in staff trainings. 
  • Attend all coach’s meetings (approximately 4-5 per year) 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized studio, ensuring that equipment is properly stowed. 
  • Open communication to ensure education and communication on all aspects of long term athletic development. 
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, values and strategic goals. 

Standard Staff Expectations: 

  • Actively create a welcoming dynamic where each individual is valued and welcomed. 
  • Actively participate as an essential member of the Aquatics team.  
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration and transformation, including through personal role modeling.  
  • Participate in all staff meetings and trainings as assigned and contribute to overall organizational success. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a regular, non-exempt limited part-time position of 12 hours per week with a set schedule of Monday - Thursday 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. Offering great perks, a supportive, vibrant in-person work environment, and a competitive starting pay rate of $25.00 - $35.00 per hour.

The pay rate offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, experience, and JCC's internal equity.

Education and Experience:

NASM, NSCA, ACSM, or ACE certifications preferred. 

CPR/AED certification required (or ability to become certified within 7 days of hire). 

1+ years of experience coaching small or large groups in the fitness industry. 

Knowledge of physiology, exercise technique, body mechanics, and general fitness principles. 

Possess excellent organizational and communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change and problem solve. 

Bachelor’s degree in physical education, or an exercise or fitness related field is a benefit, but not required. 

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria. 

Skills and Abilities:

Must display management and supervisory skills.

Computer skills (e-mail, Word and Excel) required.

Excellent customer service and communications skills required. 

Physical Requirements:  Able to work well in a busy, dynamic and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Able to lift and carry objects weighing at 30-40 pounds. Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly.
