Colby Co. Engineering (Colby Co.) is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join their multi-disciplinary team of 70+ employees.  This can be a remote position.

  • Colby Co. is seeking an experienced designer and will offer a salary that will be competitive and commensurate with the experience the candidate brings to the role.  
  • In addition to base salary, Colby Co. offers an annual discretionary bonus and an anniversary bonus to recognize years of service with the company.

Requirements of the Mechanical Designer:
  • 5+ years of drafting/design experience, preferably at a consulting engineering firm.  
  • Ability to create plans and drawings for a broad range of mechanical engineering designs including HVAC systems, industrial systems (pumps, heat exchangers, custom ductwork, piping, etc.), system controls, boiler design and machine design and ensure that they meet customer specifications and can be effectively produced and installed.  
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 2D and 3D models. 
  • Strong spatial visualization skills to create and manipulate complex designs. 
  • The ability to work collaboratively with engineers and other designers to achieve project goals. 
  • Attention to detail to ensure that designs are accurate and meet project specifications. 
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey design concepts and ideas to team members 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines. 
  • Quick, flexible thinker and problem-solver who is accustomed to working in fluid teams on tight deadlines. 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD MEP. 
  • Experience with Revit or other BIM a plus. 
  • Experience with Trane Trace 700 and or DOE2 a plus. 
  • Experience working on federal contract projects a plus.  
  • Sustainable design experience a plus. 
  • Ability to obtain government clearances. 


Responsibilities of the Mechanical Designer:
  • Translate conceptual sketches and ideas provided by mechanical engineers for a variety of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, system controls) into detailed plans and digital models using a variety of software.   
  • Ensure accuracy and adherence to engineering specifications.  
  • Work with CAD programs to test and verify a modeled structure or system. 
  • ​​​​​​​Work collaboratively on multidisciplinary design teams, primarily in-house but also with subconsultants.
