Project Engineer I

SUMMARY 

Mortenson’s Minneapolis Group is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer I with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Project Engineer will review, provide analysis, management, and resolution of field coordination issues with project team members and participants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons
  • Implement the pre-construction quality plan
  • Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses
  • Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, Non-Conformance Report
  • Manage, create, and distribute contract documents
  • Establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence)
  • Incorporate processes and procedures for project closeout phase
  • Manage testing and inspection processes for construction quality management
  • Implement three-phase inspection system
  • Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and off-site testing procedures
  • Notify Project Manager and Superintendent of non-conforming test results or inspection items
  • Manage submittals: set up register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing
  • Expedite submittals to align with project schedule
  • Communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers
  • Issue submittal requirement letters
  • Provide periodic updates of submittal register to customer or architect
  • Coordinate subcontractor details: verify insurance, prepare paperwork, request final payment
  • Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders
  • Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents
  • Incorporate subcontractor as-built documentation into contract document updates
  • Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers
  • Determine alternative work methods as needed
  • Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members
  • Maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management
  • Minimum of two years related construction experience
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills
  • Current driver’s license

The base pay range for this role is $82,000 - $110,700 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
