Software Development Engineer I

About the Role:

Remitly's Remittance Transaction Engineering (RTE) team is looking for an SDE1 to join our team, where you will work on meaningful and high value projects while reporting to the Engineering Manager of RTE. As part of the core backend of the Remittance product, RTE serves as the bridge between our platforms and customers, ensuring that your work directly enhances the experience of millions of Remitly users worldwide. As a member of RTE, you will build your technical expertise, collaborate with experienced engineers, and contribute to scalable systems that power global money transfers. We support hybrid work, and you will work 50% of your time each month with your team in our Seattle office.

You Will:

  • Solve complex technical challenges with a customer-centric mindset.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services using Java/Kotlin, Go, TypeScript, and AWS.
  • Ensure reliability and scalability of remittance transactions by improving system observability, performance, and fault tolerance.
  • Work with teams (Product, Operations, and Customer Support) to deliver solutions that enhance customer experience.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and mentorship opportunities to accelerate your growth.

You have:

  • A BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
  • 1+ years of experience building backend services or consumer software applications.
  • Exposure to AWS (or similar cloud platforms) and understanding of cloud-based software development.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (Java, TypeScript, Go, Python, PHP, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab) and best practices for testing and deployment.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $108,000 -$130,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
