Physical Education Teacher and Coach

Rye Country Day School is seeking a Physical Education Teacher and Coach to join the faculty/staff/administration beginning in September 2025. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. We are actively committed to creating and sustaining a school community that is nurturing, supportive, diverse, and inclusive, one in which all students can participate fully and achieve their maximum potential through academic, athletic, creative, and social endeavors. We expect and promote moral responsibility and strive to develop strength of character within a respectful school community.

 Specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teaching Physical Education, grades Pre-K to 12
  • Varsity Coaching
  • Coaching a second season at the Varsity or JV level
  • Coaching Middle School
  • Serving as an Upper or Middle School Advisor

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education required, Master’s preferred
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience
  • Ability to be a Head Varsity Coach; previous Head Coaching experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others in implementing a well-balanced physical education program
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement
  • Willing and able to teach skating
  • Ability to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to differentiate curriculum
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and sportsmanlike qualities within a competitive interscholastic program
  • Patience, empathy, a sense of humor, flexibility and the ability to relate to a diverse student body
  • A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; a positive attitude, energy, and an inspiring and adaptive leadership style
