THE TEAM

Torch is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to support our mission of empowering individuals and organizations through enhanced digital experiences. This role will focus on developing and leading our web applications to create engaging and effective user interfaces.


The Staff Engineer - Full Stack will have a deep understanding of frontend and backend technologies, particularly React, Python, and Ruby, and modern design patterns essential for creating scalable, responsive, and visually compelling web applications. They will be well-versed in the nuances of web performance, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility, ensuring that our applications not only meet but also exceed the highest standards of user experience.


This role requires a talented engineer who can inspire and mentor other engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, precision, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and strategic insight, driving the team to deliver results that align with Torch's overarching goals of growth and customer satisfaction.


YOUR ROLE
  • Collaborate with product teams to design and build creative solutions, enabling personal growth for our clients while empowering our coaches.
  • Lead projects and mentor a team of engineers by establishing and maintaining high technical and professional standards.
  • Help to create scalable, high-performance web applications consumable on various device form factors.
  • Uphold high standards in code quality and system reliability through peer code reviews and advocating for best practices in software development.
  • Consistently ship high-quality features and improvements.


YOU HAVE
  • A degree in Computer Science, a related STEM field, or equivalent practical knowledge.
  • Expertise in Python or Ruby (Ruby on Rails), JavaScript (React) and TypeScript, providing a holistic approach to web development.
  • Experience driving teams in delivering multiple highly impactful projects.
  • Comprehensive understanding of various testing methodologies, ensuring thorough coverage and high-quality user experiences.
  • Commitment to delivering pixel-perfect UI and upholding accessibility standards.
  • Skilled in building and utilizing RESTful web services.
  • Background in developing and sustaining design systems and design libraries.
  • Understanding of distributed application design patterns and asynchronous programming models.
  • Working familiarity with Datadog or similar tools for performance monitoring, error detection and debugging
  • Familiar with both relational and non-relational databases.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to security best practices.
  • Experience implementing LLM/AI into real world applications.
  • Proficiency with Git and cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
