The Cockrell School of Engineering is looking for a Communications Specialist—a marketing and communications generalist who can flex across all our channels and processes.

This role is perfect for someone who’s organized, proactive, and eager to support storytelling, social media, content creation, design and project management. You’ll help ensure our marketing and communications efforts are delivered on time, on brand, and on point—whether you’re drafting content, coordinating campaigns, or assisting with analytics.

Purpose

Manages projects that advance communication efforts and support the UT brand for a variety of audiences. Responsible for the daily operations of assigned projects. Proposes topics on which to base communications strategy as well as research, craft, and distribute content across multiple platforms using templates provided. Manages projects and implements plans to engage target audiences. Assists with market research and analytics reports to guide visibility and reach, further expanding audience engagement. Participate in regular editorial meetings, assist with pitches and story ideas. Serve as the department's point of contact to initiate and prioritize new projects. Works independently.

Responsibilities

  • Keep Us on Track – Help manage projects that advance the Cockrell School’s communications efforts, ensuring deadlines are met and priorities stay aligned.

  • Support Design and Content – Using provided templates and guidelines, assist with research, design, and content across web, social media, email, presentations and print.

  • Collaborate Across Teams – Meet with Cockrell School’s key departments and offices, coordinating priorities across teams to reach marketing and communications goals.

  • Generate & Organize Ideas – Participate in editorial meetings, help pitch and shape story ideas, and coordinate with faculty and departments to initiate new projects.

  • Engage Target Audiences – Help implement communication strategies that connect with students, faculty, alumni, and external partners.

  • Analyze & Report – Assist with market research and compile analytics reports from web, social, and email channels to help optimize our reach and impact.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in online marketing and communications, managing projects and/or relationships.

  • Experience with content creation and understanding of content marketing strategy.

  • Experience managing content on a large website.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate proactively and professionally.

  • Experience supporting social media, web content, or digital marketing efforts.

  • Comfort with project management tools and ability to keep teams aligned on priorities.

  • Enthusiasm for working in a highly collaborative and fast-moving environment.

  • Ability to self-start, work independently, prioritize and balance simultaneous tasks, and meet deadlines.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data and analytics.

  • Comfort with basic graphic design tools and experience adhering to brand standards.

Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation 

  • Use of manual dexterity

Work Shift

  • Standard work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

  • Periodic work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings and weekends, may be required.

Employment Eligibility:

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
