Character Art Intern

The Insomniac Games Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside our artists who create our award-winning gameplay experiences. We are seeking a motivated intern who is interested in learning from and partnering with our content creators throughout our studio. Interns receive important character art assignments that contribute to their growth and future opportunities.

Being an intern with the Character Art department here at Insomniac Games is an excellent opportunity to be part of game production. You will have the opportunity to take part in working in a diverse, innovative, collaborative, and creative environment. You will have the opportunity to be mentored by senior members of the team, through the Insomniac process for creating character art.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Authoring and optimizing character assets to match both aesthetic and performance goals
  • Using Maya, Marvelous Designer, ZBrush and Substance Painter
  • Assisting with maintaining character systems throughout the project
  • Working closely with Animators and Riggers to ensure models deform accurately and are functional
  • Maintaining consistent style under the direction of the project Art Director
  • Polishing character related assets
  • Delivering milestones with the rest of the team

Internship Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited university or educational institution, pursuing a Diploma, Certificate, Bachelor's, Master’s, Ph.D with the following concentration: Computer Art, Illustration, Game Design, Product Design, or equivalent or six to twelve months related experience and/or training.
  • Internships are available to students who are US citizens or international students with an F-1 visa.
  • Possess strong foundational art skills, and 3D asset production skills
  • Be proficient in Maya, ZBrush and Substance Painter
  • You are upbeat, self-motivated, communicative, creative, and responsible, and also have a genuine interest in video games and art.

Internship Details:

  • This is a paid, full-time internship: 5 days per week for approximately 40 hours a week.
  • We expect at least an 8-week commitment from our interns.
  • This role is based in Burbank, CA or remote from an approved US state.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 


Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

This is a flexible role that can be remote, with varying pay ranges based on geographic location. For example, if you are based out of Seattle, the estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$33.25—$45.75 USD
