Social Media Writer

Hey there! 👋

We’re Lickability — people who make apps people love. For over 15 years, we’ve helped companies bring their ideas to life through thoughtful engineering, human-centered design, and a commitment to quality.

Our small-but-mighty team specializes in iOS, Android, and full-stack development, with experience building products for The New York Times, RevenueCat, Epic Games, The Browser Company, and many more. Our services span native app development, cross-platform solutions, backend architecture, and product strategy.

What We're Looking For

We need a freelance social media writer & strategist to help us tell our story online and connect with our audience in meaningful ways by keeping our social channels active and engaging while our team focuses on building great apps.

What You'll Do

  • Write, edit, and publish social media posts that capture our voice and connect with our audience

  • Adapt content for the different platforms we use: Twitter, Mastodon, Bluesky, Linkedin, and occasionally Instagram

  • Keep our social channels humming with consistent posts using tools like Buffer or Typefully to plan a content schedule

  • Share your drafts with us for review before they go live

  • Keep an eye on what's working (and what's not) through engagement metrics

  • Bring fresh ideas to the table for content and engagement

  • Help us get smarter about our social media game as we go

The Nuts & Bolts

Our team is remote, but mainly based in the NYC/NJ area, working Monday–Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm EST. We’re flexible on when you work, as long as you can put in 10-12 hours per month and meet with us for quick, synchronous weekly check-ins so we can review content & analytics.

For this engagement, we’ll start with a two-week trial to make sure we’re a good match.

You'd Be a Great Fit If…

  • You have experience creating social media content in a professional setting

  • You know your way around different social media platforms & what makes each one tick

  • You’re comfortable using social media scheduling tools like Buffer or Typefully

  • Bonus points if you have experience writing for tech companies

Even if you don't feel like you 100% hit all these points, please consider applying anyway! We aren't perfect, and we're not expecting you to be, either. Plus, studies show that women, people of color, and folks from other underrepresented groups are less likely to apply unless they meet every requirement — and we definitely don’t want that to stop you.

Compensation

  • $50-75/hour (based on experience)

  • Paid monthly

  • 1099 contractor status

How We'll Measure Success

  • Increased post frequency and consistency

  • Growth in follower count and engagement rates

  • Quality of content and alignment with brand voice

  • Efficiency of review and posting process

  • Website traffic from social media channels

  • Increased qualified leads coming from social media

Application Process

Required Materials

  1. Brief cover letter explaining your interest and relevant experience

  2. Resume or portfolio highlighting social media work

  3. 3-5 examples of social media posts you've written that represent your best work

  4. Writing sample: Please create 3 sample posts for our company (one each for LinkedIn, Mastodon/Twitter, and Instagram) that showcase your understanding of our brand and audience.

All submitted writing samples and test content remain the intellectual property of the creator and will not be used without explicit permission and appropriate compensation.

Next Steps

  1. Submit all materials

  2. Selected candidates will be invited for a brief video call

  3. Final candidate selection and trial period agreement

  4. Two-week paid trial period begins

Diversity & Inclusion

Inclusivity is important to us. Our team, like much of the tech industry, is lacking diversity—we want to do better. We highly encourage women, people of color, and folks from other underrepresented groups to apply. We’re always working on making Lickability a friendly and welcoming place to work for everyone, including you.
