Job Description: Advanced Manufacturing Engineer
Mach Industries is seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to drive the evolution of our Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) processes. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product Engineering to revolutionize the entire product lifecycle, from concept to production to end-of-life. Your expertise will shape cutting-edge prototype builds and optimize manufacturing processes for next-generation autonomous defense platforms. At Mach Industries, you will be at the forefront of innovation, ensuring our systems are efficient, scalable, and sustainable while maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance.
At Mach Industries, we are building decentralized, autonomous systems to maintain an allied American edge in modern warfare. As an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing flexible, adaptable manufacturing processes that enable rapid production at scale. Working with a world-class engineering team, you will bridge the gap between design and execution, delivering solutions that ensure manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and mission-critical reliability.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with Product Engineering to ensure manufacturability and provide design feedback through DFMA studies at the part, assembly, and system levels.
Support all phases of product development, from concept and prototyping to full-scale manufacturing and end-of-life processes.
Participate in early prototype builds to validate manufacturability and lead the design and delivery of proto manufacturing tooling.
Drive the optimization of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Assembly processes, focusing on content reduction, assembly simplification, and built-in quality.
Conduct static and kinematic studies to simulate assembly and equipment interactions, ensuring efficient and safe production workflows.
Lead Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), build sequence development, and process layout design; host virtual builds with cross-functional teams.
Provide production support engineering, including technically complex testing methods, procedures, and failure analysis.
Travel to machine suppliers and contract manufacturers to oversee equipment bring-up and manufacturing trials.
Support design validation builds by preparing bills of process and leading manufacturing trials.
Actively engage in value engineering, challenging assumptions and driving cost reduction without compromising product function or performance.
Utilize manufacturing and industrial engineering principles (OEE, cycle time analysis, Cp/Cpk, GR&R, DOE, ergonomics, quality control, equipment selection) to optimize processes.
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in an engineering role related to DFMA, product optimization, manufacturing processes, or equipment development.
Strong experience in precision assembly, inspection, and automation equipment development.
Proficiency in building and interpreting tolerance analysis for parts and assemblies.
Knowledge of machine qualification requirements, including calibration, correlation, capability, repeatability, and reproducibility.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems using first principles and a bias toward action.
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
Experience with 2D and 3D CAD environments and engineering tools.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a global environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in robotics (6-axis), pneumatics, servo motors, motion controllers, PLC, and PC-based control systems.
Hands-on experience with manufacturing and industrial engineering principles, including OEE, cycle time analysis, Design Value Analysis (DVA), ergonomics, and supply chain logistics.
Proven track record of cost reduction, project management, and engineering design in a manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with defense industry manufacturing standards and processes.
Experience working with high-fidelity simulation tools or digital twins for process validation.
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline.
