Project Specialist

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative seeks a highly motivated Project Specialist to coordinate and support the development and implementation of the newly established Massachusetts Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub.

This role is ideal for an ambitious professional who thrives in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. You will be part of starting up and developing a mission-oriented organization focused on developing and ethically adopting artificial intelligence applications and technologies across the Commonwealth, within the state’s economic development agency for technology and innovation. Your ability to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders, as well as your ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies, will be paramount to the success of this effort as will your ability to organize messaging, program content and logistics.

As part of the commitment of state government to make Massachusetts a national leader in artificial intelligence innovation, the Massachusetts AI Hub is being established at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech). This pioneering initiative will drive cutting-edge collaboration between government, industry, startups, and academia, pursue solutions to the world’s most critical challenges, and unlock economic opportunities for businesses and residents across the state.

The AI Hub will strive to make AI technology more accessible to small and large enterprises in the state’s key sectors, enable researchers, entrepreneurs, and startups to pursue the development and commercialization of innovative new ideas, and, most importantly, the AI Hub will work to prepare the state’s workforce for the emerging opportunities in AI and will strive to enable all citizens to benefit from the inevitable changes that AI will introduce into society.

Modelled after its recently established Northeast Microelectronics Coalition (NEMC) Hub, MassTech is launching the Massachusetts AI Hub, as a new division and is seeking candidates to serve as its inaugural Project Specialist to support the startup and development of the Massachusetts AI Hub at the Mass Technology Collaborative.

Role & Responsibilities

The Project Specialist will support an emerging AI Hub team on the execution of programs and activities centered around three core Hub components: (1) Equity and Values, (2) Infrastructure, and (3) the Innovation and Talent Ecosystem. This position will work closely with Working Groups derived from each of these core components, supporting the communication, coordination and logistical requirements necessary for the success of each working group. The Project Specialist will work in partnership with the AI Hub Director, Mass Tech leadership and staff, an AI Hub Advisory Council, and the AI Hub Working Groups on the implementation of an impactful Massachusetts AI Hub that achieves the recommendations of the Governor’s Strategic Task Force. The Project Specialist will also provide staff support to the AI Hub Advisory Council.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The responsibilities of this position will be dynamic in the launch of the AI Hub and will require flexibility, efficiency and organization.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans to amplify work of the Hub and it’s supporting working groups.
  • Ensure timely and consistent communication with members, working groups, projects teams, event attendees and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and edit timely written communications potentially including program feature stories, website content, email marketing content, social media, project briefs and stakeholder communications.
  • Create and edit presentations, event briefs, talking points and other communications as needed.
  • Assisting the AI Hub Director and the Innovation Institute at MassTech with the execution of high-priority/time sensitive work products in support of the AI Hub in a timely manner as they arise.
  • Work collaboratively with Mass Tech Collaborative’s Marketing and Communications team to shape overall communication development efforts.
  • Support development of systems to track key milestones for organizational reporting.
  • Work with AI Hub Director on implementation plans, business strategies and processes that ensure clear, effective and timely decision making that will enable the AI Hub to operate and scale smoothly.
  • Willing to work as an employee of the AI Hub at MassTech without affiliation with any of its members/contributors.

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience, including project and/or program management.
  • Prior work experience at a government agency, nonprofit or other public-oriented business helpful but not required.
