Corporal of Operations

Job Description Summary

Responsible for assuring the safety, protection and assistance of students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the University. The corporal of operations reports activities and incidents at University Campus, providing for the security and safety of property, students, staff and other individuals. This is a shift supervision position requiring University Campus tours, inspections and policy enforcement. The Corporal of Operations reports to the Deputy Chief of Operations, and assists him/her with their workload, including training, disciplinary actions, reporting, and other duties as needed.

Duties and Tasks:

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them form the position if the work is similar or related or a logical assignment to the position.   Management may require incumbents to perform duties other than those contained in this document.

  • Field leadership and supervision on assigned shift; acts to ensure that standard operating procedures are followed by all officers; that established rounds are completed, and that adequate reports are filed;  notifies appropriate University Safety administration of concerns and emergency situations.
  • Liaison between shift officers and University Safety Command Staff. However, does not have the authority to hire, discipline or fire employees based on performance, misconduct or insubordination
  • Assist with environmental health and safety issues, parking and traffic services; promote and ensure the safety and security of University students, personnel, and property; ensure enforcement of all applicable University regulations, criminal codes, and government safety requirements.
  • Assists Deputy Chief of Operations with their workload
  • Fulfill the duties of a University Safety Officer.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Previous Saint Leo University, University Safety Department experience.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Law Enforcement/Military experience preferred
  • Associates Degree Preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in a law enforcement adjacent role preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.

Physical Demands: 

           

  • Must be capable of walking long distances, and climbing flights of stairs.
