Summary of Job Duties:

The Graduate Assistant in University Communications and Marketing works closely with the news director and content team to advance department goals in telling relevant campus news to the university community and the media. This position is instrumental in financial activities for the college. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education;
    • Regular admission to a UA Little Rock graduate degree program or good standing with the UA Little Rock Graduate School for continuing graduate students;
    • Ability to work the required hours (FT-50% - 20 hours per week/PT-25% - 10 hours per week) with regular attendance;
    • On occasion, weekends and evening work may be required to cover story content

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with the university marketing and communications team to write content that showcases the University of Arkansas at Little Rock;  
    • Identify real-time opportunities to connect relevant cultural trends, current news, and online conversations with the people/work/stories of the university;
    • Create engaging content that draws our audience into those connections;
    • Help integrate content strategies across relevant channels including web, social, print, and earned media;
    • Assist with the media relations team to develop content for pitches (might include video);
    • Employ best practices when writing for print or the web.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written);
    • Familiarity with a variety of software including Google Suite, and Microsoft Office software;
    • Possess thoughtful, creative, and strategic thinking and problem-solving skills;
    • Ability to think, reason, and make sound judgments on how responsibilities are completed in compliance with college standards;
    • Ability to work under pressure and set priorities within a fast-paced environment;
    • Familiarity with AP style and the appropriate style when writing for the web.
    • Ability to travel to various campus locations as needed.
