UC’s annual budget stands at $1.85 billion, and its endowment totals nearly $1.8 billion.Job OverviewPerform master mechanical work; supervise variously skilled mechanical technicians.Essential Functions• Repair various mechanical equipment such as fans, mechanical seals, bearings, pumps, motors, laboratory equipment, autoclaves, glass washers, water purification equipment, utility systems, and structures. Perform welding and brazing;• Periodically inspect and test installed equipment for proper assembly of components, check for any needed repairs in compliance with technical orders, blueprints, specifications, manuals and established procedures;• Repair, trouble shoots complex steam pressure reducing system safety; condensate return devices, steam traps, perform water treatment and testing and apply chemicals. Perform repair of critical laboratory exhaust systems (fume hoods). Inspect hoods for air balance;• May be required to serve as a lead worker and/or supervise, instruct and train semi-skilled and skilled Air Quality workers and trades people; assist supervisor in allocating work assignments; reviewing and evaluating work performance in training new personnel; coordinate work with other trades;• Maintain housekeeping conditions as prescribed by area;• Perform related duties based on departmental need.
