Senior Project Manager, Complete Vehicle Lab

The Senior Project Manager role is responsible for the comprehensive execution of projects from concept through hand over.  This includes front end planning and definition to translate requirements into project scope, budget development, execution strategy, with a continued leadership role to carry projects from design through construction.  The projects are implemented largely via an EPC delivery model. However, the position requires experience with all delivery models. He/she must have a solid understanding of project management tools and approaches to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects, and the knowledge and social skills needed to lead diverse and dynamic teams.

 

The Senior Project Manager is a key leadership role which assists in delivery project objectives through successful projects and internal/external relationships. The role requires consistently meeting company's expectations, both defined and implied, by successfully managing projects through meeting program objectives in parallel with balancing scope, time, cost and quality.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Project /Practice Management

  • Ability to balance the big picture with details; manages from an understanding of the full project scope.
  • Uses systematic proven process. Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resources requirements; determines necessary sequence of activities needed to achieve goals.
  • Shows ability to plan, schedule, direct work of self and others; balances task requirements and individual abilities; organizes materials to accomplish tasks; sets challenging yet achievable goals for self and others.
  • Core competency in project implementation following a gated process utilizing industry best practices and metrics for improving safety, cost, schedule, and quality
  • Effectiveness at engaging and utilizing a team to accomplish plans; can resolve unexpected problems.

  • Builds knowledge of internal company’s business, organization and objectives; uses these insights to anticipate and address internal needs. Able to translate opportunities to solutions.
  • Maintains an understanding of regulations and other drivers that may influence internal company’s business.
  • Manages day to day interactions while creating trust, rapport, and a collaborative partnership.
  • Motivation and resolve to take initiative and execute objectives.
  • Deals with conflict in a constructive and creative manner, seeking resolution while preserving the business relationship.

  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance in core role to deliver high quality results.
  • Use weekly analysis to communicate accurate project status, identify issues, implement mitigation measures, predictions, actions to be taken to ensure project stays on time and budget.

Project Controls Management

  • Ability to orchestrate and manage project scope/budget development to compile accurate and complete project budgets to meet project needs and execution strategy.
  • Ability to lead and develop project risk analysis with the project team, including mitigation strategies and actions, providing direction for incorporation into the project plan.    
  • Able to develop, analyze and interpret change management to support project success. Insightful; understands ramifications and implications of change impacts as a whole to support quality, cost, and schedule control.
  • Uses systematic proven processes for budgeting & maintains financial discipline of fund release in accordance with supplier contract & project gates.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain preliminary overall project schedules encompassing all project implementation elements from preliminary design through construction through hand-over to create a credible project plan to support decision-making.
  • Ability to orchestrate and manage detail project schedule development to provide a complete executable project plan for monitoring progress and forecasting through completion.
  • Ability to understand schedule complexities, monitor progress, and provide insight and input to forecast and mitigate problems before they occur

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of five years of industrial processes design experience and possesses an overall technical understanding in the areas of process, mechanical, electrical, controls, civil/structural/architectural design, as well as a level of specialty within one or more of these disciplines.
  • Microsoft Project, Excel, and specialized skills using project management software applications is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering with a minimum 15 years of progressively responsible project design, project execution and management experience.
  • Experienced in managing EPC type projects. Has a demonstrated progressive career path which shows increased skills and abilities in these areas.
  • Understanding at a level commensurate with leading a multidiscipline technical team.
  • Membership in construction management organizations (PMI, CII, CMAA, etc.) including committee participation and certifications is desired
