Location: Remote and/or hybrid, US or Ontario province


About the role


As an Associate Scientific Director you will be a senior member of the Scientific Services team with extensive experience in the global medical communications industry. You will combine a clear delivery role with a strong commercial focus, taking on account direction responsibilities for a key Avalere Health account and leading scientific and editorial roles on specific projects as appropriate.


You will provide high-level strategic input both internally and to clients, supporting team leads, Scientific Directors, and the Client Service Team in identifying and converting new opportunities. Your role will be defined by scientific and commercial excellence within your accounts, recognizing significant scientific and market developments and effectively interpreting and communicating these both internally and externally.



What you'll do
  • Content development across a range of project types in medical affairs/commercial, with effective briefing and reviewing in line with client objectives.
  • Onboarding and mentoring of junior writers to develop in-depth scientific knowledge.
  • Lead scientific client relationships within an account or large workstream and responsible for scientific accuracy and oversight (including resourcing as required) of account or workstream.
  • Understand and anticipate client objectives and develop super/strategic reviewing skills, including strategic approach to problem-solving and projects and develop experience in working on strategic projects as part of wider team.
  • Support strategies with organic growth/business development.
  • Direct line management of junior colleagues and training/mentoring of other account team members.


About you
  • Your background could be medical communications, or healthcare advertising/marketing. We are ideally looking for 6+ years of experience.
  • You will have worked on a range of medical communications projects – which could include congress work, creative and copy design and co-creation of content.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a scientific (or equivalent) area of study essential; post-graduate research experience an advantage to ensure strong scientific grounding.
  • Strong client services skills with a commitment to superior quality.
  • Self-motivated, professional, detail-oriented, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working under pressure within tight deadlines.
  • Advanced PC or Mac experience with MS Office Suite and functional experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro.


$150,000 - $160,000 a year
Salary banding is subject to skills and experience.
