We are an internationally recognized, Emmy Award®-winning studio – in two prominent Canadian cities, Vancouver and Montreal – and the creative force behind top audience hits such as The Dragon Prince, Rick and Morty, Teen Titans Go!, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. 

While currently an Expression of Interest, here is a peak at what you could be doing. As a Story Director at Bardel, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire storyboarding process from start to finish. You will collaborate with executive producers, stakeholders, and the production team to ensure that the storytelling style aligns with the creative vision of the show. Your role will include leading and mentoring story artists, making key creative decisions, and maintaining the highest storytelling quality throughout the production. 

What You Could Be Doing

  • Oversee and supervise all story artists throughout the production, providing creative ideas and solutions. 
  • Work closely with client creative team to ensure alignment on creative vision for the project. 
  • Exercise strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills to ensure tasks are assigned, understood, and completed. 
  • Provide direction and leadership in the creation of a series bible/style guide. 
  • Lead all storyboard launches, ensuring story artists understand the storytelling style of the show. 
  • Review and provide feedback on storyboards and animatics before distribution to executive producers and internal/external stakeholders. 
  • Translate scripts into compelling visual narratives, enhancing the emotional impact of the story. 
  • Work with the production team to ensure that deadlines are met. 
  • Cultivate and maintain a strong working relationship with executive producers and stakeholders. 
  • Foster a positive and productive team environment, encouraging growth and development. 

What You’ll Bring 

  • Proven experience as a Storyboard Director or Lead Storyboard Artist in high-end animation productions. 
  • Strong storytelling sensibility with a deep understanding of cinematography, composition, and pacing. 
  • Extensive experience using Storyboard Pro and other relevant storyboard software. 
  • A portfolio that showcases: 
  • Dynamic storytelling with character-driven sequences. 
  • A range of scene types, including action, dialogue, and emotional beats. 
  • Strong drawing ability with an emphasis on expressive character work, staging, and perspective. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide clear direction, incorporate feedback, and collaborate across departments. 
  • Experience mentoring and guiding artists, fostering a creative and productive team environment. 
  • Ability to make quick, confident decisions under tight deadlines while maintaining creative integrity. 

 

Pay Range: CAD $2100 - $2400 per week   

This salary range provided reflects our current expectations for these roles as of this posting’s date. Your final salary offer will consider various key factors, including your education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographical location, as well as the needs and requirements of the business.
